TVS Jupiter Surpasses 6.7 Million Units, Leads India's Scooter Segment

The TVS Jupiter scooter, available in 110cc and 125cc engines, is the second most popular scooter in India after the Honda Activa. Launched in September 2013, the TVS Jupiter will celebrate its 11th anniversary next month. Initially introduced as a 110cc model, it was joined by a 125cc variant in 2021. Together, they have achieved cumulative sales of 67,39,254 units in the domestic market as of July 2024.

In FY2024, the Jupiter set a record with 84,48,63 units sold, surpassing its previous best of 81,09,16 units in FY2018. It outperformed other models last fiscal year, including the Raider 125 (47,84,43 units), XL100 moped (48,18,03 units), Apache range (37,81,12 units), and Ntorq 125 (33,18,65 units). The Jupiter continues to be TVS Motor Co's top-selling scooter and overall best-selling product in its two-wheeler line-up.

TVS Jupiter's Market Impact

Since its launch 11 years ago, the Jupiter has helped give TVS a strong position in India's scooter market. Within a year of its launch, TVS' scooter market share grew from 12.68 percent to 15.19 percent in FY2015 and then to 16.36 percent in FY2018. This growth continued with the introduction of the sporty TVS Ntorq 125. By FY2024, the Jupiter-NTorq duo had accelerated TVS' scooter market share to 25 percent.

In less than two years after launch in 2015, the scooter crossed the five lakh unit sales mark and then reached one million sales milestone by 2016. Shortly after that in 2017, it surpassed two million sales. The four-million milestone came up early in FY2021 and five million in 2022. In celebration of this achievement, TVS launched the Jupiter 110 Classic.

Sales Milestones and Achievements

The six-million sales milestone was achieved in October 2023. More recently, it surpassed three million units sold by June 2023 and sold an impressive total of 2.25 million units during FY2024 alone. Proof of the Jupiter powering TVS's scooter sales can be seen clearly in their numbers.

Of TVS Motor Co.'s cumulative sales of 10.8 million scooters from FY2014 till end-July 2024, the Jupiter accounts for a strong contribution with its sale of over six million units which makes up about sixty-two percent of their total sales.

Current Fiscal Year Performance

In the first four months of the current fiscal year alone (April-July), TVS has dispatched nearly three lakh Jupiter scooters to showrooms across India—a twenty-one percent increase from last year's same period figures of two lakh forty-seven thousand nine hundred seventy-two units.

As seen previously in FY2024 figures too when compared to other models like NTorq (1 lakh forty-nine thousand six hundred seventeen units), Raider (1 lakh forty-two thousand seven hundred forty-four units), Apache (1 lakh fifty-one thousand two hundred sixty-nine units) and XL100 moped (1 lakh sixty thousand two hundred seventy-eight units), Jupiter remains way ahead among its siblings.

TVS Motor Co has also exported over eighty thousand Jupiter scooters since its launch further solidifying its presence not just domestically but internationally too.

The ongoing fiscal period from April-July saw TVS achieving a scooter market share of twenty-three point four one percent with five lakh nineteen thousand five hundred thirty-two unit sales where again; majority share belonged to none other than their flagship model -Jupiter itself reflecting how crucial this model is for maintaining their competitive edge within Indian markets against rivals like Honda Activa etc.,
