Triumph To Expand 400cc Motorcycle Range With Festive Season Launches: Thruxton 400 Among New Additions

Triumph Motorcycles India is poised to expand its 400 cc lineup with two new models this festive season. According to Moneycontrol, Triumph and its Indian partner, Bajaj Auto, are preparing to introduce these motorcycles based on the 400 cc platform in the coming weeks.

Triumph initially entered the 400 cc segment with the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X last year. The upcoming models might include the long-rumoured Thruxton 400 and another derivative.

Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, confirmed earlier this year that a new Triumph 400 cc motorcycle would be launched soon. By October, production of the Speed and Scrambler 400s is expected to stabilise at 10,000 units per month. This stability will allow room for new models. Additionally, Triumph plans to launch the new Daytona 660 in India in the next few weeks.

New Triumph Models

The Thruxton 1200 is set to be retired by the end of this year, sparking rumours that its name will live on through a new 400 cc semi-faired cafe racer. The Thruxton 400 is anticipated to bring a cafe-racer style based on the Speed 400. It was previously spotted testing with features like a Monza fairing, clip-on handlebars, and a flat pillion grab rail.

The upcoming Triumph 400 cc motorcycles will share underpinnings with other 400 cc models and will be manufactured by Bajaj Auto in Maharashtra. These bikes are expected to be exported as well as sold domestically. Pricing is likely to be slightly higher than the Speed 400's starting price of Rs 2.24 lakh and the Scrambler 400 X's price of Rs 2.54 lakh (ex-showroom, after discount).

Thruxton Name Revival

The Thruxton name could see a revival through a new 400 cc model as the original Thruxton RS 1200 is phased out by year's end. The Thruxton 400 aims to add visual mass and road presence that the Speed 400 lacks. Details about the second new model remain undisclosed.

Bajaj might also update the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X for the festive season due to increased competition in the 400-500 cc segment. Potential updates could include an enhanced instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation, along with new colour options.

Market Competition

The Triumph Speed 400 recently marked its first anniversary with a Rs 10,000 discount on both it and the Scrambler 400 X until August 31, 2024. These models compete against bikes like Hero Mavrick 440, Harley-Davidson X440, and Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450.

Triumph has successfully sold over 50,000 units of its existing models and opened more than 100 dealerships across India. This expansion indicates strong market acceptance and sets a promising stage for future launches.

The semi-fairing design of the Thruxton 400 aims to enhance its visual appeal compared to the Speed 400's simpler look. This move could attract more buyers looking for stylish yet powerful motorcycles in this segment.

As Triumph prepares for these launches, enthusiasts eagerly await detailed specifications and pricing information for these anticipated models. The collaboration between Triumph and Bajaj continues to bring exciting developments to India's motorcycle market.
