Suzuki Initiates Major Recall For Faulty Scooter And Motorcycle Parts

Suzuki is conducting a recall to replace faulty parts in around four lakh units of their scooters and motorcycles. Customers can get the affected parts replaced for free at Suzuki service centres. This is a common practice in the industry to address any issues that may arise due to occasional anomalies in parts from different suppliers.

Suzuki Recall for Access 125, Burgman 125, and Avenis 125

The recall notice identifies scooters manufactured between April 30, 2022, and December 03, 2022, as having a defective high-tension cord. Specifically, this issue impacts 2,63,788 units of the Access 125, 72,025 units of the Burgman 125, and 52,578 units of the Aventis 125.

Suzuki has clarified that this is a precautionary measure. Customers have been individually notified and asked to visit their nearest Suzuki service centre for repairs. All costs related to labour and parts replacement will be covered by the company.

The faulty high-tension cord is associated with the ignition coil. According to the recall announcement, the problem arose because the high-tension cord was not designed according to drawing requirements (NG). This design flaw led to cracks and breakage due to repeated bending during normal vehicle use caused by engine oscillation.

Impact on Vehicle Performance

Due to the defective high-tension cord affecting the ignition coil, issues such as engine stalling and starting failures were reported.

Additionally, it was found that cracks in the high-tension cord exposed it to water. This exposure led to leaked ignition output affecting speed sensors and throttle position sensors. Consequently, vehicles experienced problems like starting failures and speed display malfunctions.

Suzuki Recall for V-Strom 800DE

In a separate recall affecting international markets including India, vehicles manufactured from May 05, 2023, to April 23, 2024, are impacted. In India specifically, this recall concerns the V-Strom 800DE model launched in March at an introductory price of Rs 10.30 lakh. Approximately 67 units of this motorcycle are affected.

Suzuki identified issues with a particular batch of rear tyres installed on these units. Manufacturing defects led to cracks and deformations in the tyre tread which could cause separation from the tyre structure. Such defects can adversely affect vehicle dynamics. As part of this recall campaign, affected V-Strom 800DE units will receive new rear tyres.
