Next Bharat Ventures IFSC Private Limited, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, has launched a Rs 340 Crore fund. This fund aims to boost the social impact startup ecosystem in India. Next Bharat focuses on supporting entrepreneurs who create value in Tier II and below regions.
The "Next Bharat Residency" program is a key initiative of the company. It offers a 4-month immersive residency for early-stage entrepreneurs. Applications are open until 31st July 2024, with the program starting on 14th October 2024. The application process is inclusive, allowing submissions via WhatsApp and ensuring a maximum two-week review period.

Impact Entrepreneurs and Community Support
Selected participants will remain part of the Next Bharat community for life, receiving ongoing support and resources. The program includes mentorship sessions by industry leaders, fostering collaboration among founders. Post-residency, startups will receive equity investments ranging from Rs 1 Crore to Rs 5 Crore.
Toshihiro Suzuki, President and CEO of Suzuki Motor Corporation, stated, "Bharat has about 1.4 billion people, but we have only reached about 0.4 billion with our mobility business. Our goal is to connect with the 'Next Billion' people of India, extending beyond mobility and becoming a part of India's future story."
Investment Framework and Long-term Goals
Vipul Nath Jindal, CEO and Managing Director of Next Bharat, highlighted their focus on creating an impact entrepreneurship ecosystem that is community-oriented. He mentioned that their investment framework aims to create hundreds of profitable SMEs over a fund cycle rather than just a few unicorns.
Mr. Vipul Nath Jindal also emphasised the importance of working closely with existing stakeholders in the ecosystem to build compounding synergies. He noted that many stakeholders are already enabling impact entrepreneurs in various ways.
Suzuki Innovation Center's Role
The Suzuki Innovation Center will now be part of Next Bharat Ventures as one of its verticals. Established with IIT Hyderabad 2.5 years ago, it will continue working on open innovation and building an Indo-Japan ecosystem for social good.
Mr. Vipul Nath Jindal has been leading this initiative from day one. An IIT Hyderabad alumnus with over five years at Suzuki Japan, he has successfully led projects like the Suzuki Innovation Center in the past.
The ultimate goal is to empower impact entrepreneurs to tackle critical social challenges in rural and informal economies. By providing essential knowledge, networks, and resources including risk capital, these ventures can scale up to become small and medium-sized enterprises.
Next Bharat aims to unite impact entrepreneurs who are solving problems for India's rural or informal economy sectors. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan, it seeks to foster sustainable business solutions for social issues.
The company’s mission is to cultivate a community of impact enablers who address social problems through sustainable business practices. This initiative aligns with Suzuki's broader goal of connecting with India's next billion people beyond mobility solutions.
