Shikhar Dhawan Joins MotoGP India As Brand Ambassador To Boost Indian Fanbase
Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has been named the brand ambassador for MotoGP India. Dhawan, an enthusiastic biker, will represent the renowned bike racing motorsport in India. He recently appeared in a commercial for Eurosport, MotoGP's official broadcaster, as part of this announcement.
The 2024 Grand Prix of India was initially scheduled for September 20-22 but has now been postponed to March next year. The race will take place at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Greater Noida. This change aligns with the next season's schedule.

MotoGP's Expansion in India
Shikhar Dhawan's involvement aims to introduce MotoGP to new audiences across India. Reflecting on his appointment, Dhawan stated, "It feels like a full-circle moment for me, especially when I think back to my days riding my favourite bike through the streets of my hometown Delhi. What excites me most is the potential we have to introduce MotoGP to new audiences across India. Together, we aim to inspire and engage fans with the exhilarating world of MotoGP."
Yamaha, a leading racing bike manufacturer globally, will be the title sponsor for MotoGP in India. As part of his role, Dhawan will feature in various commercials promoting the sport within the country.
History and Future of MotoGP in India
The first edition of the MotoGP race in India took place at BIC last year. Initially planned for September this year, the second edition has been rescheduled to March 2025 due to logistical adjustments.
Earlier reports suggested possible cancellation of the 2024 race due to financial issues between Dorna and Indian organisers. However, organisers clarified that all financial obligations would be settled by June, delayed due to general elections.

MotoGP's decision to appoint Dhawan highlights their commitment to expanding their fan base in India. The collaboration aims to boost engagement and excitement around bike racing among Indian audiences. The announcement was made by MotoGP on Thursday, marking a significant step towards promoting motorsport culture in India.
Dhawan owns several bikes including a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy. His passion for biking makes him an ideal representative for MotoGP in India. The involvement of prominent figures like Dhawan is expected to draw more attention and interest towards MotoGP events in the country. This strategic move by MotoGP underscores their efforts to establish a stronger presence and connect with diverse audiences across different regions.
