Top 5 Things We Know So Far About The Royal Enfield Bear 650: Suspension, Powertrain Updates & More

The Royal Enfield Bear 650 is the latest addition to the company's 650cc lineup, marking the fifth model on this platform. This scrambler, based on the Interceptor 650, introduces several modifications that set it apart. Furthermore, the Royal Enfield Bear 650 will be offered in 5 colour options.

Design and Features

The Bear 650 showcases a distinctive design with its new wheel dimensions and scrambler-style seat. The wheels have been adjusted from an 18-inch/18-inch setup to a more scrambler-appropriate 19-inch/17-inch configuration. The seat has a slight rear kick-up, contributing to its unique stance. Familiar round LED head and tail lamps are retained, complemented by new LED indicators.

Suspension and Ergonomics

The suspension system has been upgraded significantly. The front features a Showa USD fork similar to the Shotgun but with different internals, while the rear sports new dual shock absorbers. Suspension travel has increased to 130mm at the front and 115mm at the rear, raising the seat height to 830mm—the tallest among the 650s.

Performance Enhancements

Underneath, the Bear 650 retains the same chassis as its sibling but incorporates changes for improved performance. A two-into-one exhaust system replaces dual pipes, boosting torque from 52Nm to 56.5Nm at 5150rpm. Peak power remains at 47hp at 7250rpm. Despite these changes, weight reduction is minimal due to reinforced chassis areas for light off-road capabilities.

Braking and Safety

Braking components have also seen updates; while the front disc remains a familiar 320mm unit, the rear disc size has increased from 240mm to 270mm. Dual-channel ABS is standard, with an option to deactivate it at the rear for specific riding conditions.

Technology and Instrumentation

The Bear departs from traditional instrumentation by adopting a circular TFT display from models like Guerrilla and Himalayan. This modern display supports Google Maps navigation and is operated via new switchgear. The bike also features competition number boards on side panels and increased ground clearance of 184mm.
