River Indie Electric Scooter Updated With New Chain Drive System & Gearbox
River Mobility, based in Bengaluru, has introduced the first updates to its Indie electric scooter since its launch last year. Known as the "SUV of scooters," the Indie now features a chain drive instead of the original belt drive. This change necessitated the addition of a single-speed gearbox to manage the new drive system effectively.
Price and Colour Updates
With these updates, the price of the River Indie has increased by ₹5,000, bringing it to ₹1.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). Additionally, two new colour options have been introduced: Winter White and Storm Grey. These join the existing palette of Monsoon Blue, Summer Red, and Spring Yellow.
Performance and Specifications
The scooter retains its 4 kWh battery, offering a claimed range of 120 km per charge. It is paired with an 8.9 bhp electric motor that delivers 26 Nm of peak torque at the wheel. This setup allows the scooter to accelerate from 0-40 kmph in just 3.9 seconds.
Storage and Practicality
One of the standout features of the River Indie is its practicality. It offers a class-leading 55 litres of storage space, divided between boot space and a glovebox. This makes it one of the most practical electric scooters available in India today.
Aravind Mani, CEO and Co-founder of River Mobility, stated that over 3,000 units have been sold since their launch in October last year. He mentioned that customer feedback has played a significant role in shaping these updates for the Indie.
Looking ahead, River plans to expand its presence across India by opening stores in various cities including Coimbatore, Vizag, Hubli, Cochin, Belgaum, Vellore, Mysore, and Uppal within two months. The company aims to establish 25 stores nationwide by March 2025.
The introduction of these updates marks an important step for River Mobility as they continue to enhance their product offerings based on customer insights while expanding their reach across India.
