Ola Electric's S1 X Models Secure PLI Certification, Enhancing India's EV Industry
Ola Electric has reached a new milestone with its S1 X 3 kWh and S1 X 4 kWh scooters receiving certification for compliance with the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme. This certification confirms that both models meet the stringent localisation criteria of 50%, as required by the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
Certification and Compliance
The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) granted this certification after thorough testing and verification of component localisation. Ola Electric is now eligible for incentives under the scheme for up to five consecutive financial years, starting from Fiscal 2024. The incentives range between 13% and 18% of the "determined sales value" (DSV) of the products.
Previously, Ola Electric received PLI certification for its S1 Air model during the Auto PLI Conclave in January 2024. With this latest achievement, Ola Electric becomes the only two-wheeler and pure-play EV manufacturer to receive PLI certification for four products: S1 Air, S1 Pro, S1 X (3 kWh), and S1 X (4 kWh).
Impact on Revenue and Manufacturing
A spokesperson from Ola Electric Mobility Limited stated, "S1 X 3 kWh and S1 X 4 kWh together contribute to almost half of our revenues, and with the PLI now in place, we will be able to further improve our bottom line. Receiving the PLI certification for the premium and mass-market products affirms our vertically integrated manufacturing strength marking a significant achievement in advancing India's EV vision. The government's ambitious Auto PLI Scheme is poised to enhance local supply chains, foster domestic manufacturing, and assist companies in achieving economies of scale."
In addition to this recent certification, Ola Electric was awarded a 20GWh capacity by the government under its PLI scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery storage in March 2022. This allows the company to receive incentives under the Cell PLI scheme over a five-year period from the date of commissioning their Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
This recognition underscores Ola Electric's commitment to advancing India's electric vehicle sector through robust manufacturing capabilities. The company's focus on meeting localisation requirements aligns with national goals to bolster domestic production and reduce dependency on imports.
