Ola Electric has introduced its Gen 3 electric scooter platform, marking a significant advancement in electric vehicle design. A major highlight of the Gen 3 platform is its newly developed battery featuring indigenously produced 4680 cells. These cells are larger in diameter and 10% more energy-dense than previous models. They are connected using in-molded bus bars, which reduce manufacturing time while enhancing shock resistance, strength, and thermal efficiency.

The new magnetless motor is another innovation in the Gen 3 platform. It uses magnetized electrical coils instead of permanent magnets to generate higher torque more efficiently. All materials for this motor will be sourced from within India, eliminating the need for rare earth materials and making the platform more sustainable.

Simplified Electronics Architecture

The electronic architecture of the Gen 3 platform has been simplified by integrating core functionalities like the Battery Management System (BMS) and Motor Control Unit (MCU) into a single high-performance multi-core processor. Ola Electric's new Central Compute Board houses all main ECUs and is more powerful than any two-wheeler electronics board currently available. This upgrade not only improves current functionality but also prepares the platform for future advancements, including next-generation safety features enabled by an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
