India's Motorcycle Trend: Shifting Towards Twin-Cylinders
India holds the title of the world's largest motorcycle market, selling more two-wheelers than any other country. While many nations are shifting towards scooters, a significant number of Indians continue to prefer motorcycles. This trend has led major two-wheeler companies to focus on affordable bikes in India.
Despite the emphasis on affordability, there is a growing market for high-performance motorcycles in India. The younger generation's interest in high-speed machines has fueled the steady increase in sales of powerful and expensive bikes. Most motorcycles purchased in India are equipped with single-cylinder engines.
However, bikes considered somewhat powerful feature two-cylinder engines. For engine capacities exceeding 500cc, a two-cylinder engine becomes essential. Here are five notable motorcycles with two-cylinder engines available in India:
Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is the most affordable twin-cylinder motorcycle in India. It is a top choice for many buyers in the 500cc+ segment. This model features a 648cc two-cylinder engine and comes in seven different paint options, all with a retro look.
Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
The Royal Enfield Continental GT shares the same 648cc twin-cylinder engine as the Interceptor 650 but offers a sportier riding experience and a more stylish design. As expected, its price is slightly higher than the Interceptor.
Aprilia RS457

The Aprilia RS457 is a beautiful fully faired mid-segment motorcycle, both track and street capable. Powered by a refined 457cc parallel-twin cylinder engine that produces 47.6bhp and 43.5Nm of torque, the RS457 puts a smile on the faces of new riders and seasoned professionals.
Yamaha R3
Another 300cc motorcycle priced above its segment - the Yamaha R3. However, on the plus side, we get another parallel-twin 300cc motorcycle with decent specs. We find this engine to produce 40.4bhp and 29.4Nm of torque, paired to a slipper clutch to showcase Yamaha’s “sportiness”
Benelli TRK 502X

The Benelli TRK 502X is the off-road version of the popular Benelli TRK 502, making it suitable for rough terrain. It is powered by a 500cc parallel-twin engine. If you’re looking for a mid-segment soft-roader, the TRK 502X is a great choice for you
DriveSpark Thinks
Twin-cylinder engines offer excellent torque and power delivery, making them a popular choice among motorcycle enthusiasts. These five models highlight the diverse options available for Indian riders seeking performance and style.
In India, the twin-cylinder motorcycles do have a grasp on the market. But, we do find some of them to be over priced and under developed. With technology, performance, and comfort being the key factors that buyers focus on, we would like to see more motorcycles catering to the general public.
