KTM India Reports Sales Dip And Export Surge In May 2024
KTM India has experienced a 12% decline in domestic sales year-on-year (YoY), while exports have grown by 17% YoY. The KTM 200 series remains the most popular among buyers. Both the KTM 200 and 250 series have recently been updated with new sporty colours, attracting more entry-level bikers.
In May 2024, KTM's domestic sales dropped to 4,525 units, an 11.53% decrease from the 5,115 units sold in May 2023. This represents a volume decline of 590 units. Month-on-month (MoM) sales also fell by 8.10%, down from 4,924 units in April 2024.

KTM India Domestic Sales Performance
The KTM Duke 200 and RC 200 series led domestic sales with 2,645 units sold in May 2024. This marks a 13.81% YoY increase from the 2,324 units sold in May 2023, capturing a 58.45% market share. However, MoM sales for these models declined by 11.33%, down from 2,983 units in April 2024.
The KTM 250 series saw a decline in both YoY and MoM sales, dropping to 1,081 units last month. This represents a YoY decrease of 21.89% and a MoM decline of 2.88%. The KTM 250 Adventure and Duke models held a market share of 23.89%. In contrast, the KTM 390 series reported better MoM sales with a slight increase of 3.48%, selling 655 units compared to April's 633 units.

Export Market Performance
In global markets, KTM India saw a YoY growth of 16.71%, with exports rising to 4,589 units in May 2024 from 3,932 units in May 2023. However, MoM exports fell by 23.63%, down from April's figure of 6,009 units.
The KTM200 series led global sales with 1,712 units sold last month despite experiencing a YoY decrease of 21.83% and a MoM decline of 2.56%. The KTM250 series showed significant growth in export markets with a triple-digit YoY increase of 126.72%, reaching 1,052 units compared to just 464 units in May last year.

The company's KTM125 range also saw substantial YoY growth in exports by an impressive 375.98%, rising to 852 units from just 179 units shipped in May last year. However, MoM exports for this range fell by 12.88%. The KTM390 series faced setbacks with both YoY and MoM declines of 11.46% and 60.58%, respectively, selling only 973 units last month.
Total Sales Overview
Combining domestic and export figures, KTM's total sales reached 9,114 units in May this year, showing a marginal YoY growth of just under one percent from the previous year's total of 9,047 units. However, MoM total sales dropped by approximately sixteen percent from April's figure of over ten thousand units.

The KTM200 series experienced a slight YoY decline of about three percent and an eight percent MoM drop to total sales of around four thousand three hundred fifty-seven units. Conversely, the KTM250 series showed positive results with over fifteen percent YoY growth and an eleven percent MoM increase.
While the KTM390 series saw its sales dip to one thousand six hundred twenty-eight units, the KTM125 series recorded the highest percentage growth at over one hundred eleven percent YoY with total sales reaching nine hundred ninety-six units.
Overall, despite some declines in specific segments and months, KTM continues to show resilience and adaptability in both domestic and international markets.
