KTM 890 Duke R Launched At Rs 14.5 Lakh - The Maniacal Scalpel

KTM's reintroduction of its international lineup to India has seen the arrival of the 890 Duke R on our roads. The naked KTM 890 Duke R is priced at Rs 14.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and will take on the likes of the Triumph Street Triple RS and the Ducati Monster SP.

Powering the KTM 890 Duke R is a liquid-cooled 899cc, parallel-twin engine that produces 121bhp and 99Nm of peak torque, all of which is sent to the rear wheel by a 6-speed gearbox aided by an optional bi-directional quickshifter. The 890 Duke R sports a fully stainless steel exhaust system.

The KTM 890 Duke R sports a powder-coated Chromium-Molybdenum-Steel frame that uses the engine as a stressed element. The subframe is made from cast aluminium and houses the airbox.

The frame of the 890 Duke R is suspended off adjustable linear spring WP APEX front forks with split function damping, compression and rebound settings. The rear end features a fully adjustable WP Apex monoshock and a die-cast, open-lattice swingarm.

The KTM 890 Duke R rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with Michelin Powercup II tyres for the best possible grip in all conditions - street or track. Braking duties on the new Duke 890 R are handled by twin 320mm discs at the front clamped down by Brembo Stylema Monobloc four-piston, radially mounted callipers. The rear end features a 240mm disc that is clamped by a Brembo single-piston floating calliper.

The KTM Duke 890 Duke R sports an array of electronic aids that help keep the maniacal naked on the straight and narrow. These electronic systems include a lean-sensitive nine-level traction control system, cornering & supermoto ABS and four riding modes including the optional Track mode.

The KTM 890 Duke R is in a word, menacing, at least in terms of its looks. The angular, split headlight with boomerang-shaped DRLS looks properly angry, something further enhanced by the sharp bodywork on the muscular fuel tank and tapering tail section. The looks are further highlighted by the loud paintwork and graphics as well as the signature KTM orange frame and wheels.
