KR Fuels Gets Approval For First-Ever LPG Conversion Kits For Two-Wheelers In India: All Details Here
Tamil Nadu-based KR Fuels has received approval for its LPG conversion kits for two-wheelers. The company is the first in the Auto LPG to get this certification. These kits can be installed on BS4-compliant scooters, promising lower running costs and cleaner emissions.
The LPG retrofitment kit arrives just weeks before Bajaj Auto's launch of the world's first CNG bike. KR Fuels' LPG conversion kit is priced between ₹9,500-10,500, with an all-inclusive cost of around ₹15,500, including fitment charges.

KR Fuels manufactures these kits at its facility in Trichy, Tamil Nadu. The kit includes a 5-litre tank, ECU wiring harnesses, and injectors, all produced in-house. With all necessary authorisations and certifications in place, the company is ready to distribute these kits across India.
Production of the new LPG conversion kits has already begun. An initial batch of 8,000 tanks is ready for distribution. KR Fuels operates 73 auto LPG stations and 7 retrofitment centres across Tamil Nadu. However, it remains unclear if the company plans to expand to other states.
Industry Reactions
Suyash Gupta, Director General of the Indian Auto LPG Coalition, commented on this development: "We are thrilled to witness KR Fuels receiving approval for two-wheelers Auto LPG retrofitment on BS4 vehicles. This significant milestone not only underscores the potential of Auto LPG as a cleaner, greener alternative to conventional fuels but also represents a crucial step towards reducing vehicular emissions across India."
He added that with over 25 million two-wheelers in Tamil Nadu alone, the impact on air quality could be substantial. Gupta also urged the government to consider reducing the GST on these kits from 28 per cent to 5 per cent to make them more accessible and support the Make in India initiative.
KR Fuels did not disclose the expected savings from switching to the LPG kit on a BS4 scooter. Safety concerns regarding retrofitted kits also need consideration. However, this is not the first instance of alternative fuel kits being used in scooters.
Previous Experiments With Alternative Fuel Kits
In 2017, Lovato experimented with retrofitting a CNG conversion kit on the Honda Activa. Bajaj is now working on launching the first motorcycle powered by both CNG and petrol fuels. This factory-fitted offering will be a first of its kind, with more details expected at its launch next month.
KR Fuels' achievement highlights their dedication and innovation within the Auto LPG industry in India. The approval marks a significant step towards cleaner transportation options and could have positive environmental and economic impacts.
