Kawasaki Set To Expand Hybrid Motorcycle Line: Eliminator And Versys Models

Kawasaki, a prominent motorcycle manufacturer, has been developing hybrid bike models. The company has already showcased the Ninja 7 Hybrid and the Z7 Hybrid, though production is still underway. Recently, reports indicate that Kawasaki is working on two additional hybrid motorcycle models: the Eliminator and Versys.

A hybrid vehicle utilises both an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and an electric motor. Kawasaki aims to integrate this technology into its Eliminator and Versys motorcycles, as reported by Cycleworld.

Recent patent filings by Kawasaki confirm the brand's efforts to give the Versys and Eliminator motorcycles a hybrid upgrade. These documents also provide insights into how the petrol and electric motors will be arranged on the bikes. Adding a hybrid system to a motorcycle is complex, as revealed by the patent details.

Kawasaki has designed the hybrid system to fit seamlessly with the Versys and Eliminator models, ensuring it does not look out of place or protrude unnecessarily.

Current Hybrid Models

The Ninja 7 Hybrid and Z7 Hybrid have their main hybrid components housed in a box under the rider's seat. These bikes feature a dedicated electric motor and battery pack alongside the regular fuel tank and engine, which are positioned close together.

New Layout for Versys and Eliminator

For the Versys and Eliminator models, Kawasaki plans to use a 451cc parallel-twin engine paired with an electric motor. The combined output is expected to match the performance of a 700cc motorcycle, generating approximately 69hp.

In these new models, the battery has been relocated from under the seat to above the engine's cylinder head. This is followed by an airbox that aids in cooling the motorcycle. This arrangement maintains the visual appeal of the bikes, ensuring they retain conventional styling. Additionally, by relocating the battery, the Versys model gains extra suspension travel.

DriveSpark thinks

Kawasaki's efforts to make hybrid motorcycles are noteworthy in an industry where hybrid cars are already popular. Such vehicles typically offer 20-30% more mileage than their regular counterparts.

Similarly, Kawasaki's hybrid motorcycles are expected to deliver impressive mileage. And with mileage being such a huge factor for buyer, it will be interesting to see how these premium hybrid products line up against competitors, when they hit the market.
