India has numerous companies producing electric scooters. Recently, several EV start-ups have emerged to manufacture these vehicles. Among the leading two-wheeler companies are TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto, which offer the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak electric scooters, respectively. Despite their similar pricing, these scooters differ in various aspects.
Design
The TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak have distinct looks. The iQube sports a modern design, while the Chetak has a classic appearance reminiscent of older scooters. The Chetak is slightly longer than the iQube, and both scooters feature alloy wheels but have different headlamp designs. The iQube's motor is located in the rear wheel.
Price
Both scooters are similarly priced. The TVS iQube starts at Rs. 1.17 lakh ex-showroom for its base variant with a 2.2 kWh battery and is available in five variants with three battery options. In contrast, the Bajaj Chetak starts at Rs. 1.10 lakh ex-showroom and comes in six variants.
Range
Range is a crucial factor for electric scooters, akin to mileage for petrol scooters. The TVS iQube offers three battery options, while the Bajaj Chetak provides only one. Comparing the iQube's 3.4 kWh battery to the Chetak's 3.2 kWh battery, there is minimal difference in range. The iQube can travel between 100 km to 120 km on a full charge, whereas the Chetak offers a range of 126 km. Both scooters support home charging.
Features
The TVS iQube boasts a 7-inch touchscreen TFT display with features like turn-by-turn navigation, mobile phone calls, SMS and social media notifications, document storage, music control, and over-the-air updates.
The Bajaj Chetak also offers turn-by-turn navigation, onboard music control, and call alerts. Additionally, the Chetak has a 'Duckbag' feature available for an extra cost that includes hill hold control and reverse mode.
The decision between these two electric scooters can be challenging due to their similar prices and features. However, their distinct appearances might help potential buyers make a choice. Those preferring a modern look might opt for the TVS iQube, while those who appreciate a classic design might lean towards the Bajaj Chetak.
