Honda Motorcycle YoY Sales Boost In May 2024: Aiming For Electrification?
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has reported impressive performance for May 2024, showcasing a robust growth trajectory in its operations. The overall sales for the month reached a significant 4,92,047 units, marking a substantial 49% year-on-year (YoY) increase.
This surge includes domestic dispatches of 4,50,589 units, alongside exports tallying up to 41,458 units. Notably, domestic sales saw a 45% YoY growth, while exports experienced a remarkable 127% surge compared to the same period last year.
In a move to further its commitment towards electrification in India, HMSI's research and development subsidiary, Honda R&D (India) Pvt. Ltd. (HRID), inaugurated a new R&D center in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
This step is aimed at bolstering Honda’s research capabilities, particularly in the field of motorcycle and power product electrification. On the product front, HMSI celebrated a notable milestone with the first anniversary of its Shine 100 motorcycle.

Since its launch, the Shine 100 has sold over 3 lakh units, significantly boosting HMSI's presence in the 100-110cc segment during the financial year 2024.
Expanding Footprint and Social Contributions
HMSI has achieved another business milestone with its 125cc motorcycles, Shine 125 and SP125, crossing over 30 lakh customers in Eastern India. This achievement underscores the brand's strong foothold in states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and the North-East region.
The company also expanded its network by inaugurating a new Sales & Service Red Wing outlet in Siliguri, West Bengal. This latest addition marks HMSI’s 38th Authorized Main Dealership (AMD) and its 277th Red Wing touchpoint in the state, enhancing its sales and service network.
Furthermore, HMSI has continued its efforts in road safety awareness, conducting campaigns in 11 cities across India. These initiatives are part of HMSI's ongoing commitment to enhancing road safety nationwide.
Additionally, the company has launched the "Stree सारथी…steering her own path" women empowerment initiative, celebrating the commencement of the first training batch for female cab drivers at its Institute of Driving Training and Research in Karnal, Haryana.
Overall, HMSI's activities for May 2024 reflect a strong focus on growth, innovation, and social responsibility. With the inauguration of new R&D and service facilities, alongside significant sales achievements and community-focused initiatives, HMSI is poised to continue its upward trajectory in India's automotive sector.
