Firefox MTB Himalaya Shimla 2024 Celebrates India's Growing Mountain Biking Scene

The 11th Firefox MTB Himalaya Shimla 2024 recently wrapped up, marking another successful chapter in India's mountain biking saga. Firefox Bikes LTD and MTB Himalaya put together this event, which saw an impressive turnout of 140 bikers from 45 cities across India and 5 different countries.

These athletes took to the hills, covering 130km over two days and climbing a total of 3000 vertical meters, proving their mettle on a path included jeep roads, single tracks, and forest climbs. The event, held in Shimla, was not just a test of endurance but a celebration of the sport's growing appeal.

Organized by the Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA), the race featured seven categories and welcomed the highest number of women participants so far, with 16 female riders.

The competitors ranged in age from the youngest at 11 to the oldest at 63, highlighting the inclusive nature of this sport. A new route and format for this edition took riders through the scenic trails of Kufri and Chail Wildlife Sanctuaries and the forests of Mashobra, adding to the challenge and excitement of the race.

Mr. Sriram, the CEO of Firefox Bikes LTD, shared his thoughts on the event, "This year's race in Shimla embodies the surging enthusiasm for mountain biking and adventure sports sweeping across India. The competition was fierce, with top-tier riders bringing their best to the rugged tracks of Shimla. Their presence not only brought a sense of excitement to the race but also highlighted the level of skill and determination within the mountain biking community. The total prize money for the event reached Rs. 5 Lakhs, with an added incentive for national podium winners of free entry, aiming to promote young talent in the mountain biking scene. Moreover, 50 athletes were selected through the Road to Himalaya races, further pushing the development of the sport in India.

The event concluded at Potter's Hill with Stage 2, where riders gave their all, displaying immense determination. Their efforts were not just for personal glory but also a testament to the growing community and the shared passion for mountain biking in India.
