Benelli Tornado 400 Unveiled: Rivalling the Aprilia RS457
Benelli is placing more attention on the popular 300-500cc motorcycle market, and there is excitement about the possibility of the Tornado 400 being introduced in India. This new middleweight supersport model has already garnered interest in Europe since its unveiling at EICMA in November 2023.
It is anticipated that the Tornado will be available on European roads in the near future, and pricing details are expected to be announced in the first half of 2024.

Benelli Tornado 400: Aesthetics and Functionality
The Benelli Tornado 400 is positioned to contest with middleweight sportbikes, such as the KTM RC 390, Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 400, and the recently introduced Aprilia RS457. Its design language is coherent with the Tornado lineage, showcasing a sleek, angular, and partially covered aesthetic. The motorcycle's aggressive stance is accentuated by a pair of vertically aligned twin-pod LED headlights at the forefront.
Adding to its dynamic look are a detached tail section, a high windscreen, split seating, and an elevated exhaust muffler. The low-set clip-on handlebars and tailored footpegs suggest a riding position that is both sporty and engaging.

When it comes to technology, the Tornado 400 is kitted out with state-of-the-art features, including full-LED lighting, a 5-inch colour TFT display, and Bluetooth integration for phone and messaging notifications. Other notables are navigation through a smartphone application, a system to monitor tyre pressure, and an accessible USB port for device charging.
Benelli Tornado 400: Performance and Mechanics
The chassis of the Tornado 400 is a tubular steel frame design, featuring a unique single-sided swingarm. The suspension system is comprised of 37mm inverted forks at the front and a rear monoshock.
The motorcycle's stopping power is delivered by dual 300mm discs upfront and a single 240mm disc at the rear, both equipped with Nissin floating calipers. Ensuring rider safety, dual-channel ABS comes standard.

The heart of the Tornado 400 is a 399cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, mated to a six-speed transmission enhanced by a torque-assisted, slipper clutch. This setup ensures that gear changes are both smooth and efficient. The powertrain is capable of delivering 47.6 bhp and 38 Nm of peak torque, adhering to the European A2 licence stipulations.
