Bajaj's Bold Move: Unveiling India's First CNG Bike
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles have carved a niche in the Indian automotive market, primarily among four-wheelers and auto-rickshaws. Nonetheless, motorbike enthusiasts have long been awaiting CNG options in the two-wheeler sector, and it seems their patience is about to be rewarded.
Revealing a significant stride in this direction, a prestigious motorcycle manufacturer is preparing to launch the much-anticipated CNG two-wheeler. Before the motorheads get on the edge of their seats, let's delve into which company this is and what we can expect in terms of pricing and launch timelines.

Bajaj Auto is gearing up to introduce its first CNG-powered bike in India. Venturing boldly into this new territory, Bajaj is actively developing a CNG motorcycle and plans to roll out these eco-friendly bikes in the fiscal year of 2025.
The anticipation of this launch has seen Bajaj advocate for tax reliefs, petitioning the government for a tax break of up to 12 per cent, underlining their focus on producing high-efficiency CNG vehicles. These bikes will not only run on CNG but will also retain the capability to operate on petrol.
Incorporating a dual-fuel system, similar to Bajaj's current fleet of CNG vehicles, these motorcycles will come equipped with special fuel tanks. These are designed with individual compartments – one for petrol and another for CNG – seamlessly taking versatility in fuel choice to the next level.
Confirmed by Rakesh Sharma, the Executive Director at Bajaj Auto, the CNG motorcycles are set to debut under an entirely new brand. However, potential buyers should prepare for a price that reflects the advanced dual-fuel technology, as CNG motorcycles are expected to cost more than their petrol-only counterparts.
Taking note of the current pricing ecosystem, Bajaj is lobbying for a considerable reduction in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on CNG bikes to make them more accessible, particularly to the economically weaker sections who would benefit immensely from the low running costs of CNG vehicles.
Albeit, the success of CNG bikes hinges on the availability of refuelling stations. Recognizing this, Bajaj is also calling for an expansion in the network of CNG infrastructure. While there has been a notable increase in the number of CNG stations across the country.

Bajaj's commitment to innovation doesn't stop at CNG. The company is also exploring the manufacture of flex-fuel vehicles, showcasing their dedication to a sustainable vehicular ecosystem. This futuristic approach will be on display at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, setting a dynamic stage for Bajaj to exhibit its green solutions to a global audience.
In the CNG arena, market leaders such as Maruti Suzuki and Tata have already made significant inroads. Hyundai is also pitching into the mix, fostering a competitive environment that is rich with alternatives for the eco-conscious consumer.

Bajaj Auto's entrance into the CNG two-wheeler market heralds a new dawn for India's transportation landscape. With an eye on both affordability and environmental responsibility, Bajaj's forthcoming CNG bikes are poised to rev up the excitement among enthusiasts and economic buyers alike.
