Bajaj To Offer Chetak Electric Scooter At Lower Price Point: All Details Here

Bajaj is gearing up to introduce a new, more cost-effective variant of its popular Chetak scooter, featuring a range of vibrant colors and a revised set of features to make it more accessible.

The latest iteration of the Chetak, updated in 2023, saw cosmetic enhancements, added functionalities, and an extended range. Recent leaks reveal images of this upcoming model, showcasing a few downgrades to achieve a lower price point without compromising on the scooter's iconic design.

What's New With The Affordable Chetak Variant?

The new variant retains the Chetak's recognizable silhouette but substitutes some of the higher-end specs for more budget-friendly options. This includes swapping out alloy wheels and disc brakes for steel wheels and drum brakes, aiming to reduce costs.

Additionally, Bajaj has opted for a retro, physical key slot over the more modern key slot, and a monochrome LCD display replaces the coloured version, first seen in the 2020 model. Storage sees a shift too, with dual open cubbies taking the place of the lockable glove box, reflecting further cost-saving measures.

While specific details on the powertrain modifications remain under wraps, it's speculated that this variant might see a slight drop in performance to boost its range.

The absence of a hub motor raises questions about its performance capabilities. However, it's likely to feature the same 2.9kWh battery pack as the Chetak Urbane, which has a claimed IDC range of 113km.

Pricing and Availability

The current Chetak lineup includes the Premium and Urbane models. The Premium variant, with a 3.2kWh battery and an IDC range of 126km, comes equipped with a TFT display and is priced at Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

On the other hand, the Urbane variant is available for Rs 1.23 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The upcoming affordable variant is expected to be priced below the Urbane model, with an anticipated launch in May.

DriveSpark Thinks

This strategic move by Bajaj aims to make electric scooters more accessible to a broader audience by offering a more affordable option without significantly compromising on quality or performance. As the launch date approaches, potential buyers and electric vehicle enthusiasts are keen to see how this new variant will stack up against its predecessors.
