Bajaj CNG Motorcycle To Transform India's Two-Wheeler Market
Bajaj Auto is preparing to introduce a new CNG motorcycle, marking a significant step in India's two-wheeler sector. This bike, developed over two to three years, aims to enhance fuel economy substantially. Bajaj Auto's previous experience with CNG vehicles includes the RE, a CNG-fuelled three-wheeler.
The company believes that CNG can offer considerable cost savings for consumers. On average, customers could save around Rs 1,500 monthly. Additionally, CNG emits less carbon compared to diesel or petrol, supporting the government's decarbonization efforts. Bajaj Auto is optimistic about the growth of the CNG network, expecting coverage to rise from 60% to 80%.
Fuel Efficiency and Cost Savings
The upcoming CNG bike is expected to attract customers focused on fuel efficiency and cost savings. However, Bajaj Auto acknowledges that customer acceptance of this new fuel type will be crucial for its success. The company plans to expand its CNG bike range based on customer feedback.
Bajaj Auto also sees potential for exporting the CNG bike to countries with established CNG networks. Potential markets include Bangladesh, Egypt, Tanzania, Peru, and Argentina. The name of the new bike remains undisclosed but it boasts a distinctive style and can operate on both CNG and petrol.

Environmental Benefits
CNG's lower carbon emissions align with environmental goals promoted by the government. The launch event will feature Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, known for advocating alternative fuels and environmental awareness.
Bajaj Auto's confidence in the expanding CNG infrastructure underpins their strategy. They foresee an increase in network coverage which will support the adoption of their new motorcycle.
The company's experience with the RE three-wheeler provides a solid foundation for this new venture into two-wheelers powered by CNG. This background gives them insights into consumer behaviour and market dynamics related to alternative fuels.
The introduction of this motorcycle could significantly impact consumer choices in India’s two-wheeler market. By offering a more economical and environmentally friendly option, Bajaj Auto aims to meet evolving consumer demands.
As Bajaj Auto prepares for this launch, they remain aware that customer behaviour towards new fuel types will be pivotal. Their plans include monitoring customer response closely before deciding on further expansions in their product line.
This strategic move by Bajaj Auto highlights their commitment to innovation in fuel technology while addressing economic and environmental concerns simultaneously.
