Bajaj Faocuses On Freedom 125 In India First, Eyes Global Expansion Too

Bajaj Auto's immediate focus is on the Indian market with its new Freedom 125 model. The company plans to eventually export the bike to six countries with established CNG infrastructure.

Focus on Domestic Market

The Freedom 125 can run on both petrol and CNG, offering a combined range of 330km. Bajaj aims to first establish a strong presence in India before exploring international markets. "Our initial focus will be India, which is a massive market in itself," said Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director at Bajaj Auto.

Production will start with a capacity of 10,000 units in the first 2-3 months. The company plans to ramp up production to 30,000-40,000 units by the end of the financial year. This phased approach allows Bajaj to meet domestic demand before expanding abroad.

Targeting International Markets

Once Bajaj has solidified its position in India, it will begin exporting the Freedom 125 to countries like Egypt, Tanzania, Peru, Colombia, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. These nations have existing CNG refuelling networks that make them suitable for the bike.

Bajaj already has experience in the CNG segment with bi-fuel options for its three-wheeler range. The CNG-powered Qute is also expected to enter markets such as Egypt soon. This background provides a solid foundation for introducing the Freedom 125 internationally.

Strategic Rollout Plan

The initial rollout of the Freedom 125 will focus on states with robust CNG networks like Maharashtra and Gujarat. This targeted approach ensures that the bike is introduced in regions where it can be most effectively utilised.

Bajaj Auto consistently exports 35-40 percent of its total two-wheeler sales, making it India's largest two-wheeler exporter. This experience in international markets will be beneficial when they begin exporting the Freedom 125.

"Once we've established a strong presence in India, we'll begin exploring these markets," Sharma added. This strategy leverages Bajaj's extensive experience and existing infrastructure in the CNG segment.

The company's methodical approach ensures that they can meet domestic demand while preparing for future international expansion. By focusing initially on India and then targeting specific international markets, Bajaj aims to maximise the potential of its new Freedom 125 model.
