Ather's New Safety Leap: ARAS For Its Electric Scooters
Ather introduced its first family scooter, the Rizta, in April 2024. The company has now announced the 'Advanced Rider Assistance System' (ARAS) to enhance scooter safety. This move aligns with Ather's commitment to rider safety and innovation in electric scooters, known for models like the 450S, 450X, and Rizta.
The ARAS suite includes features such as Skid Control and Fall Safe. Skid Control acts as traction control, managing torque to the motor based on surface conditions. This feature is particularly useful on slippery surfaces like wet roads, gravel, or sand. We tested this feature on the new Rizta earlier this year.
Ather ARAS Features
Fall Safe is another key feature that cuts power to the wheels if a fall is detected. This prevents unintentional acceleration, reducing injury risks. Ather has integrated these features by combining new software and hardware, ensuring better safety for riders even post-purchase through software updates.
In addition to ARAS, Ather scooters come with several safety features like Emergency Stop Signal (ESS). ESS activates flashing lights during harsh braking at high speeds, alerting other road users of a sudden stop and reducing rear-end collision risks. This feature was recently added to the new TVS Jupiter 110 as well.
Existing Safety Features
Ather scooters also offer live location sharing, theft detection, and towing alerts. These features allow riders to track their scooter and share their location without distractions. Such advancements are part of Ather's broader strategy to enhance rider convenience and safety.
Cars have long led in adopting technologies like airbags, ABS, and ADAS for improved road safety. However, similar advancements in rider assistance systems for electric two-wheelers have been lacking in the mass market until now.
Ather’s ability to update its scooters with newer software even after purchase benefits buyers significantly. This ensures that riders can enjoy the latest safety enhancements without needing a new vehicle.
