Ather Energy Enters Sri Lanka, Partners With Evolution Auto For EV Expansion

Ather Energy, a prominent electric vehicle manufacturer in India, is set to expand into its second international market, Sri Lanka. This move follows their entry into Nepal in November 2023. Ather will collaborate with Evolution Auto Pvt. Ltd., a joint venture involving Sensei Capital Partners, Atman Group, and Sino Lanka Private Limited, to open its first experience centre in Sri Lanka in the upcoming quarter.

Partnership and Infrastructure Plans

Evolution Auto Pvt. Ltd. will serve as Ather Energy's national distributor in Sri Lanka, handling sales and service operations. Additionally, Ather plans to establish a network of fast-charging infrastructure across the country. This initiative aims to simplify the adoption of electric vehicles and provide a seamless experience for users.

Ather Energy s Big Move into Sri Lanka

Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy, expressed enthusiasm about entering the Sri Lankan market. He stated, "We are thrilled to enter the Sri Lankan market. Sri Lanka has been a part of our global expansion plans after Nepal, where we established our presence last year. With the increasing cost of ownership of petrol vehicles and the economic and environmental benefits of electric vehicles, the Sri Lankan market has shown an increasing preference for EVs."

Experience Centres and Charging Grids

In Nepal, Ather opened its first Experience Centre (EC) last year and has since established three Experience Centres and seven fast-charging grids across the country. In India, Ather boasts a retail sales network comprising 208 Experience Centres and 1973 fast-chargers under the Ather Grid as of March 31st 2024.

Zahran Ziyawudeen, CEO of Evolution Auto, commented on the collaboration with Ather: "Our mission at Evolution Auto is to pioneer sustainable transportation in Sri Lanka, making eco-friendly electric mobility accessible and efficient for all. We are incredibly excited to collaborate with an industry giant like Ather Energy to launch a world-class range of scooters in Sri Lanka."

Ather's expansion into Sri Lanka aligns with its strategy to tap into markets showing a growing preference for electric vehicles due to rising petrol costs and environmental concerns. The company aims to attract modern consumers who value high-quality products through its renowned performance and design.

This strategic move by Ather Energy signifies its commitment to broadening its international footprint while promoting sustainable transportation solutions globally.
