125cc Motorcycle Sales Record 21% Yearly Growth In June 2024
Motorcycle sales in the 125cc segment saw a notable year-on-year (YoY) increase in June 2024, with total sales reaching 2,99,526 units. This marked a 21.05% rise from the 2,47,442 units sold in June 2023, translating to a volume growth of 52,084 units. However, month-on-month (MoM) figures showed a slight dip of 0.05%, with sales just short of 86 units compared to May 2024's total of 2,99,612 units.
Honda CB Shine led the market with impressive sales figures. It sold 1,39,587 units in June 2024, reflecting a significant YoY growth of 40.64% from the previous year's 99,254 units. The CB Shine holds a commanding position with a market share of 46.60%. Priced between Rs. 80,000 and Rs. 84,000 (ex-showroom), it remains a popular choice among buyers.

125cc Motorcycle Sales Performance
Bajaj Pulsar followed the Honda CB Shine with sales of 63,586 units last month. However, this represented a YoY decline of 5.28% from the 67,134 units sold in June 2023. The Pulsar series is undergoing testing for new models that promise sportier features and enhanced performance.
TVS Raider also featured among the top sellers but experienced a YoY decline of 13.78%, selling only 29,580 units compared to June 2023's figure of 34,309 units. The Raider is priced between Rs. 95,000 and Rs.1.02 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hero Glamour saw an outstanding demand surge with a YoY growth of 115.88%. It sold 24,159 units in June 2024 compared to just 11,191 units in June last year. This significant increase added up to a volume improvement of 12,968 units.
Market Share and Pricing
The Hero Splendor recorded lower sales with only 21,396 units sold in June this year compared to last year's figure of 35,278 units—a decline of 39.35%. The Splendor is affordably priced at Rs.82,348 for the drum brake variant and Rs.86,348 for the disc brake trim (ex-showroom).

Another model from Hero MotoCorp's stable was the Xtreme 125R which sold an impressive number of units—21,054—in its first month on the market.
KTM's range consisting of the Duke and RC models saw a significant drop in sales by YoY standards; only selling 164 units last month compared to the previous year's figure of 276—a decline of over forty per cent.

Month-on-Month Sales Analysis
The MoM analysis revealed mixed results across different brands within this segment. Honda CB Shine showed positive growth with an increase from May’s figure by nearly ten per cent while Bajaj Pulsar experienced a sharp decline of over fourteen per cent.
TVS Raider also faced reduced sales on an MoM basis by more than twenty percent whereas Hero Glamour continued its upward trend showing almost twenty-seven percent growth from May’s numbers.

Hero Splendor suffered another setback on an MoM basis as well declining by over twenty-three per cent while Hero Xtreme saw dramatic improvement increasing its numbers significantly by nearly forty-seven per cent when compared to May’s figures.
New Entrants and Future Competition
KTM’s performance improved slightly on an MoM basis showing around fourteen percent growth from May’s numbers indicating some recovery within this high-priced segment ranging between Rs1 .79 lakh – Rs1 .89 lakh (ex-showroom).

The competition within this segment is expected to intensify further following recent launches such as Bajaj Freedom CNG priced competitively between Rs95k – Rs1 .10 lakh (ex-showroom) offering consumers more choices within this popular category.
The overall landscape for motorcycles within India continues evolving rapidly driven largely by consumer preferences towards affordable yet reliable options making it essential for manufacturers to constantly innovate and stay ahead curve amidst growing competition across various segments.
