Suzuki V Strom 800: An Adventure-Tourer
Adventure bikes, previously designed for various terrains, are steadily promulgating into road-dedicated motorcycles, designed primarily for longer and sturdier road journeys. Leading this move is the revered Japanese manufacturer, Suzuki, with their V Strom line of motorcycles, expanding its celebrated portfolio to include the new road-focused V Strom 800. The updated version of the off-roader, the V Strom 800, shares its primary specifications with the Suzuki V Strom 800DE, which has been recently spotted testing in India.
The V Strom 800’s most eye-catching change is the incorporation of cast alloy wheels; sporting a 19-inch wheel at the front with a 17-inch companion at the back. The new model also delivers the bonus of tubeless tyres, an appealing upgrade for long-distance riders. Braking hardware also saw substantial alterations. The Strom 800 opted for a pair of four-piston radially mounted Nissin calipers replacing the axial units of its predecessor, the 800DE.

Focusing on the suspension, the Suzuki V Strom 800 is outfitted with a Showa fork adjustable for preload and a monoshock adaptable for rebound and preload equipped with a remote preload adjuster. This motorcycle, made for the open road, sacrifices significant ground clearance and gains in seat height adjustability for a more comfortable, long-distance ride.
The changes extend even to the on-board technology suite. Notably removed is the 'Gravel Riding’ mode and the rear ABS on the V Strom 800 cannot now be turned off offering a significant indication of the road-focused design of the vehicle.

Suzuki's UK website lists this model as the 800RE, and it retails at 9,699 GBP (Rs. 9.93 Lakh), competitively placed under the 10,000 GBP (Rs. 10.24 Lakh) mark of the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport. Suzuki’s evaluation of the global market and attention to customer needs has led to a shift towards a road-biased ADV, given this meets the demands of a more considerable percentage of users.
Currently, speculation is rife that Suzuki might also bring the V Strom 800 to India. This prediction garners support from the spied testing of the V Strom 800DE on Indian roads. Moreover, considering the large, ever-growing market for adventure touring motorcycles in India, this speculation may certainly prove to be more than just a far-off prediction. Both models being tested in Indian conditions promise exciting times ahead for the motorcycle industry and its faithful clientele.
In conclusion, Suzuki continues to show its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction with the new V Strom 800. The motorcycle maker has once again delivered on the expectations of motorcycling enthusiasts by turning their off-road machine into a master of the tarmac while preserving all the practicalities required for long-distance travel. We can only wait and watch as this novel addition to the Suzuki line-up takes on the fervent roads and the unforgiving market challenges.
