Reshaping Mobility: Suzuki Burgman Electric Prototype
Japan's renowned automobile manufacturer, Suzuki, is prepping its stage for a grand showcase of an electric scooter prototype – the future version of the Burgman Street 125 – at the impending Japan Mobility Show of 2023. The show is scheduled for ten days, starting from October 26th and ending on November 5th, taking place in Tokyo.
This prototype version, however, is strictly for demonstration and exploration. With its potential ventilation, Suzuki makes it clear that the eventual product may carry alterations, and hence, might differ from the prototype.

Coming straight from the horse's mouth, the brand suggests that this upcoming electric scooter is a 125cc equivalent. Hence, it is estimated to echo the acceleration and top speed existing in the petrol version of the Burgman Street 125, which currently caters to the Indian market.
The trending feature to look out for in this prototype scooter will be a battery-swapping mechanism, contributed by Gachaco. Gachaco is a battery-swapping consortium based out of Japan. This operation involves four major automobile titans - Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki.
The presentation of this Burgman Electric scooter serves a two-fold objective for Suzuki. Primarily, it works as a demonstration of their upcoming product. Concurrently, the brand plans to use this opportunity to study and collect data pertaining to the usage pattern of these two-wheelers by consumers. This diligent approach simply indicates Suzuki's intention of utilising this empirical data for the future refinement and development of their electric motorcycles.
The Burgman Electric is publicly listed, with all the primary details visible on Suzuki's Japanese website. Barring a few minor contrasts, the observable aesthetics of this scooter remain strikingly similar to the ICE Burgman Street 125 that has been serving customers in India.

As per the released information regarding the e-Burgman, it is judged to be powered by a 4 kW motor, boasting a maximum torque output of 18Nm. The battery range, sadly, appears to be a bit curt with just 44km.
However, such numbers should be taken with a pinch of salt, as there is a good possibility for them to magnify in the final product, offering a longer range and advanced motor specifications. Consistent with the current trend of electric scooters, we can expect the e-Burgman to feature contemporary add-ons like smartphone connectivity options and improved security aids for a safer and smarter ride.
