The new 2024 Himalayan is based on what Royal Enfield calls the Sherpa 450 platform. The new 451.65cc single-cylinder engine is 10kg lighter than the previous 411cc motor.

The new engine sports liquid cooling, dual-overhead camshafts and four valves that enable RE to crank up the Himalayan's output. The new Himalayan 450's engine pushes out 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 40Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm.

The new Himalayan pushes out 15.5bhp and 8Nm of torque more than its predecessor. To help deliver this extra oomph to the ground, the new Himalayan 450 from Royal Enfield is offered with a 6-speed gearbox.

The new Himalayan also sports a brand new steel twin-spar frame with the new Sherpa motor acting as a stressed member. The frame is suspended off new bits from Showa with a 43mm USD front fork and a monoshock (with preload adjustment) at the rear taking care of the rough stuff. Both offer 200mm of suspension travel.

The Chennai firm is also working on getting new spoked wheels certified that can be run with tubeless tyres.

Braking duties on the new Himalayan are handled by a large 320mm disc at the front and a 270mm disc at the back both of which are clamped down by Bybre callipers. Dual-channel ABS is standard on the new Himalayan and riders can switch off the rear ABS.
