Ola S1 Air Vs Ather 450S – The Battle Of The Electrifying Lightweights

The festive season has always been a great time for automotive manufacturers in India to introduce new products as the sales push during this season gives good initial traction. However, the government recently revised the FAME-II subsidies, and this has skyrocketed the prices of electric scooters.

To combat this price hike, electric vehicle manufacturers are introducing more affordable variants of their existing models to attract customers. The latest to jump on this bandwagon is Ather Energy and Ola Electric.

Ola S1 Air Vs Ather 450S

That being said, Ather Energy launched the more affordable Ather 450S electric scooter, and Ola Electric launched the Ola S1 Air electric scooter. As such, here's a quick comparison between these two entry-level electric scooters.

Design

Though design is a subjective matter, we think the newly launched Ather 450S looks a lot more premium than the Ola S1 Air. This is mainly because the Ather 450S looks almost identical to the more premium Ather 450X.

However, this is not the case with the Ola S1 Air. In fact, the Ola S1 Air comes with a few mechanical downgrades compared to the more premium Ola S1 Pro electric scooter. On top of that, the unpainted lower section makes things look spartan.

Powertrain

The Ather 450S features a PMSM electric motor with 7.24bhp and 22Nm of torque. Also, the model comes packed with a decent-sized 2.9kWh battery pack. In comparison, the Ola S1 Air packs in a 6.03bhp hub-mounted electric motor and a slightly larger 3kWh battery pack.

Performance & Range

The Ather 450S has a top speed of 90km/h, and the certified range of the model stands at 115km. Also, according to Ather Energy, the Ather 450S electric scooter can accelerate to 40km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

On the other hand, the top speed of Ola S1 Air stands at 90km/h, however, the company claims that the scooter could accelerate to 40km/h in 3.3 seconds. Moreover, the certified range of the Ola S1 Air electric scooter is rated at 125km.

Features

In terms of features, the Ather 450S does come with features such as turn-by-turn navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, multiple ride modes, park assist, auto hold, ESS and more. However, the model features a very simple segmented display.

In comparison, the Ola S1 Air packs in a touch-sensitive 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster with features such as reverse mode, multiple ride modes, Bluetooth connectivity, Map-based navigation, cruise control, and more.

Price

The new Ather 450S is priced at Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the Ola S1 Air is priced at Rs 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom), however, after August 15, the price is expected to reach Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Thoughts About The Ola S1 Air & Ather 450S Electric Scooters

The newly introduced entry-level models from Ather Energy and Ola Electric are expected to attract a large number of buyers in the country. However, among these two models, the Ather packs in better hardware, whereas the Ola features a better tech suit.

So, the right electric scooter between these two entry-level models boils down to your individual preferences. As such, a tech-savvy person may like the Ola S1 Air more than Ather 450S, whereas the Ather 450S is likely to have better handling characteristics and will suit a sportier rider.
