Ducati To Become More Accessible With Hypermotard 698 – The Single Cylinder Ducati Bike

When Ducati revealed its Superquadro Mono single-cylinder engine, many were excited as it would pave the way for more affordable Ducati bikes. Now, the Italian superbike manufacturer has revealed a new bike powered by the same single-cylinder engine.

This new single cylinder Ducati bike is named Hypermotard 698, and it uses the Ducati's 659cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with Desmodromic valves. This engine in the Ducati Hypermotard 698 is tuned to produce 76.7bhp at 9,750rpm and 63Nm of torque at 8,000rpm.

However, these power and torque figures can be increased to 83.6bhp and 67Nm of torque by replacing the stock exhaust with a Termignoni racing exhaust. Ducati even claims that this engine is derivative of the 1,285cc engine in the Ducati Panigale 1299.

Ducati also seems to be particularly very proud of the characteristics given to the new Superquadro Mono engine. In fact, Ducati claims 70 per cent of the engine torque is available at 3,000rpm, and torque never drops below 80 per cent between 4,500rpm and 10,250rpm (redline).

Coming to the gearbox, the new Ducati Hypermotard 698 uses a 6-speed gearbox with Slip & Assist clutch. However, quick shifter is an optional extra, but the RVE model gets it as part of the standard fitment.

Like all Ducati motorcycles, the new Hypermotard 698 also uses a Trellis frame. However, this one weighs just 7.2 kilograms. Also, the entire motorcycle weighs just 151 kilograms. That being said, the Hypermotard 698 uses USD forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear (both fully adjustable).

Despite its lightweight, the Hypermotard 698 uses a 330mm disc at the front grabbed by a radial M4.32 monobloc caliper. This motorcycle also comes equipped with dual-channel ABS but can be turned off at the rear.

The Ducati Hypermotard 698 uses 120/70 ZR17 tyres at the front and 160/60 ZR17 tyres at the rear. Also, electronics include cornering ABS, traction control, 3 power modes, 4 riding modes, launch control, wheelie control (optional), and a 3.5-inch LCD dash to control all the above tech.

Thoughts About The Ducati Hypermotard 698

Though the Ducati Hypermotard 698 will make the Ducati range more affordable, we do not expect the Italian superbike manufacturer to price it competitively with its nearest rivals to maintain its premium position.
