KTM 1390 Super Duke R Revealed: The Beast Just Got Madder

Commemorating 30 years of its iconic Duke range, Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM has pulled the covers off its latest beast - the KTM 1390 Super Duke R. The new KTM 1390 Super Duke R replaces the 1290 Super Duke R.

The KTM 1390 Super Duke R super naked motorcycle is a technological marvel and boasts of a potent 1350cc engine and is available in two variants - the standard model and an advanced Evo version.

The potent new liquid-cooled, 75-degree V-twin is the largest fitted to a road-going KTM to date. The engine also features shift-cam technology, better known to the world as Variable Valve Timing and pushes out 187.4bhp at 10,000rpm and 145Nm of peak torque at 8,000rpm.

Weighing in at just 200 kilos, the new Super Duke R has a power-to-weight ratio of 937bhp/tonne. To help send the tyre shredding output of the KTM 1390 Super Duke R to the rear wheel, the biggest Duke makes use of a 6-speed gearbox.

The new engine also offers improved durability, requiring valve clearance checks only after a substantial 60,000km of riding. The 1390 Super Duke R also features a revised ram air intake system and airbox along with shorter throttle bodies to push more air into the larger powerplant.

The Super Duke's aesthetics have also been revamped and it sports a restyled LED headlight, aerodynamic winglets beneath the fuel tank, and lightweight 17-inch wheels. The new 1390 Super Duke R sports a 17.5-litre fuel tank, which KTM claims is good enough for around a 300km range.

The Evo variant of the Super Duke R takes performance up a notch with its semi-active electronic suspension from WP with five damping modes and additional track-focused options for thrill-seekers. Unique features like the Anti-Dive setting on the front forks and an automatic lowering of rear shock preload at standstill enhance ride comfort and stability.
