EICMA 2023: Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid Unveiled - The Naked Green Monster

Kawasaki has taken the wraps off its latest innovation - the Z7 Hybrid at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy. The Z7 hybrid is the second member of Kawsaki's recently unveiled hybrid lineup after the Ninja 7 Hybrid.

The Z7 Hybrid shares its powerplant with its sibling, the Ninja 7 Hybrid. The strong hybrid setup combines a 451cc twin-cylinder internal combustion engine (ICE) with an electric motor. While the engine pushes out 58.3bhp and 43.6Nm of peak torque, the electric motor adds another 12bhp to the mix for short bursts.

The Z7 Hybrid like its Ninja sibling sports three different operating modes. Firstly, there's the electric-only mode, which when engaged sees the motorcycle operate solely on electric power, providing a smooth and silent ride. However, the range in this pure electric mode is limited to just 12km.

Next up is the Eco-Hybrid mode. In this mode, both the ICE and the electric motor work together to provide an efficient riding experience. For those who crave maximum performance, the Z7 Hybrid has a Sport mode.

In Sport mode the Z7 Hybrid's setup optimises the power delivery from both the ICE and the electric motor, ensuring maximum power and speed. To add to the excitement, there's an e-Boost function that can be activated with a paddle switch on the right handlebar. This function provides a five-second burst of maximum power, perfect for overtaking manoeuvres or quick acceleration.

The hybrid system is connected to a 6-speed AMT transmission. Riders can choose between a fully automatic transmission or a six-speed paddle-triggered gear system depending on their preference.

The Z7 Hybrid features a trellis chassis similar to the Ninja Hybrid and sports the same running gear as its faired sibling. This includes the 41mm telescopic front fork and pre-load adjustable rear monoshock along with the 17-inch rims and the twin 320mm front and single 250mm rear disc.

The Z7 Hybrid isn't just about performance and efficiency, though. It also boasts a striking design that's sure to turn heads. The bike will be available in two different colour schemes- Metallic Bright Silver/Metallic Matte Lime Green/Ebony and Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray/Ebony/Metallic Graphite Gray.

Thoughts About The Kawasaki Z7 Hybrid

With the introduction of the Z7 Hybrid, Kawasaki continues to lead the way in the hybrid motorcycle segment. It combines the best of both worlds - the raw power of an internal combustion engine and the efficiency of an electric motor which should appeal to both the quiet city dweller and the manic performance enthusiast and everyone in between.
