Meet The World’s First Strong Hybrid Motorcycle – The Kawasaki Ninja 7 HEV

Hybrid technology has now become a favourite for many car manufacturers due to the introduction of stricter emission regulations across the globe.

However, despite the success of hybrid tech in the car industry, motorcycle manufacturers have rarely resorted to hybrid tech. Now, Kawasaki intends to change that with the introduction of the Ninja 7 Hybrid motorcycle.

According to Kawasaki, the Ninja 7 HEV is the world's first mass-produced Strong Hybrid motorcycle. Also, the Japanese automaker intends to put the Ninja 7 HEV on sale in the UK by April 2024.

Speaking about the hybrid powertrain of the Kawasaki Ninja 7 HEV, the model is powered by a 451cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine, and a 12bhp traction motor. In combined form, this hybrid powertrain puts out 60bhp.

However, the peak power output can be increased to 69bhp with the e-boost function. That being said, the energy for the electric motor is stored in a 48V lithium-ion battery pack.

According to Kawasaki, the Ninja 7 HEV is capable of delivering a performance that is comparable to a 650cc to 700c motorcycles. Also, the model is said to have acceleration comparable to a 1000cc supersport motorcycle.

One of the major advantages of opting for hybrid tech is efficiency, and the automaker claims the model has a fuel efficiency that is on par with that of a 250cc motorcycle.

Standout features of the Kawasaki Ninja 7 HEV include a high-quality TFT dashboard with Rideology application, walk mode, idle start-stop function and much more. Out of these features, the walk mode enables low-speed forward and reverse functions for easy manoeuvrability, whereas the idle start-stop function boosts overall efficiency.

One interesting feature that deserves special mention is the Automatic Launch Position Finder. This feature automatically selects the first gear during a standstill, which relieves the user from finding the first gear before moving.

In terms of braking, the Kawasaki Ninja 7 HEV uses twin-disc brakes at the front and a single-disc brake setup at the rear. Furthermore, the model comes equipped with telescopic suspension at the front and a monoshock unit at the rear.

The Kawasaki Ninja 7 HEV might not be a dream motorcycle for many, but this motorcycle gives a glimpse of the future fo motorcycle technology. Also, we expect this technology to be soon implemented into bigger and more powerful bikes.
