Green is the New Fast: Take a Look at Suzuki’s Hydrogen-fueled Burgman Scooter!
As we journey towards a greener and more sustainable future, it is abundantly clear that the development of alternative forms of propulsion technology will have a dramatic impact on our path. In the automotive industry, a sphere that has been grinding gears for over a hundred years, it's therefore not surprising to see manufacturers tinkering with various technologies toward a carbon-neutral future.
One such manufacturer handling this innovation is Suzuki, a well-known Japanese auto maker, who recently shared some intriguing details about their hydrogen powered Burgman scooter, a concept based on the Burgman 400.

The breakthrough point for this concept comes not from the fact it's a hydrogen powered model, as hydrogen power isn't a new phenomenon, but rather its mode of operation. Interestingly, this scooter doesn't utilize the customary fuel cell technology often seen in hydrogen powered cars.
That technology typically operates wherein hydrogen and oxygen react to produce electricity, with the only by-product being pure water, which then powers the wheels via an electric motor. That’s not the concept Suzuki's Burgman scooter set in motion.
In the hydrogen powered Suzuki Burgman, an internal combustion engine is still at the heart of operations. The major shift is that this particular engine runs on hydrogen gas, not petrol. Despite this alluring detail, there is sadly very little additional information regarding the scooter’s specifications. However, we know that it’s fitted with a potent 70Mpa (10,153 PSI) hydrogen fuel tank.
Although this hydrogen combustion engine concept isn’t a fresh off-the-assembly-line idea, as many manufacturers have been pouring their resources into this technology, particularly in the heavy equipment industry, it gains relevance because it's one of the first such scooters to hit the scene. Battery powered substitutes often turn out to be overly large and hefty for common applications, so it's no wonder this hydrogen concept is gaining significant traction.
Even though Suzuki has clarified that this current model is in the experimental phase with no immediate plans for commercial launching, just the thought of a hydrogen powered scooter sparks intriguing possibilities.
A future where filling up your scooter with hydrogen instead of gasoline could be the norm doesn't seem that farfetched, and with manufacturers such as Suzuki leading the charge, this future could be brighter and more sustainable.

When it comes to advances in propulsion technology, it's clear that Suzuki is at the forefront. With the upcoming 2023 Japan Mobility Show happening from October 26th to November 5th, more details about the hydrogen powered Burgman scooter will be released. For those eager to see the scooter in person, it will be on display at the Suzuki stall during the show.
This is an exciting time in the world of automotive technology, with novel concepts such as the hydrogen powered Burgman set to shape the industry’s future. The road to a carbon-neutral future may well be lined with vehicles such as these, utilizing technology to the fullest in our endeavor for a cleaner, greener planet.
