Honda CB300R Vs Triumph Speed 400 – Light Weight Vs Brute Force
The Triumph Speed 400 made quite an entry into the Indian motorcycle market with its aggressive pricing and attractive retro design.
In contrast, the Honda CB300R made its entry into the Indian market with a steep pricing which pushed even the most loyal Honda fans away from Honda showrooms in India. Now, with revised pricing, the Honda CB300R makes much better sense. However, can it take on the Triumph Speed 400?

Pricing
Starting with the pricing, the Triumph Speed 400 is actually the more affordable motorcycle with a price tag of Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the Honda CB300R motorcycle now costs Rs 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
Design
Both the Triumph Speed 400 and the Honda CB300R sport retro design theme. However, the Triumph feels more retro in comparison, whereas the Honda CB300R has a neo-retro theme.

That being said, the Triumph Speed 400 looks bigger and more desirable, whereas the Honda CB300R easily passes under the radar and does not command a second glance as the Triumph Speed 300 motorcycle.
Powertrain
The Triumph Speed 400 uses a 398.15cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine. This engine in the Speed 400 is tuned to produce 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. Furthermore, this engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with Slip & Assist clutch.
Though the Honda CB300R uses a liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine, the engine size is smaller at 286cc. This engine puts out 30bhp at 8,000rpm and 27.4Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. Like the Speed 400, the CB300R also sports a 6-speed gearbox with Slip & Assist clutch.
Weight
Weight is a major factor when it comes to performance. So, the lesser the weight, the better it is for performance, and less weight also improves handling characteristics. That being said, modern motorcycles come with a lot of tech and this adds some weight to the motorcycle.
Thanks to modern tech and a larger 400cc engine, the Triumph Speed 400 weighs at a respectable 176 kilograms. In comparison, the Honda CB300R is almost like a commuter motorcycle with a weight of just 146 kilograms.
Suspension & Brakes
The Triumph Speed 400 motorcycle comes equipped with a 300mm disc brake at the front and a 230mm disc brake at the rear. Furthermore, the model features USD forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear.
The Honda CB300R on the other hand also features dual disc brake setup measuring 296mm at the front and 220mm at the rear. Moreover, this motorcycle also features USD forks at the front and a mono shock at the rear.
