More Affordable Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Under Development – Likely To Be Under Rs 2 Lakh
The newly formed partnership between Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson looks quite successful with the recent launch of the Harley-Davidson X440 motorcycle in India. However, at Rs 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom), the X440 motorcycle is still a stretch for the majority of Indian consumers.
In a bid to overcome this pricing issue and aggressively penetrate into the Indian two-wheeler market, the partnership now seems to be developing a more affordable Harley-Davidson bike for India.
In fact, a recent spy shot has revealed a test mule that is almost identical to the Harley-Davidson X440 motorcycle. However, a closer look at the engine shows the test mule comes with a totally different power unit.
Moreover, this new power unit in the test mule looks similar to the one in the Hero Karizma XMR motorcycle. This choice will reduce development costs for the partnership and also streamline the production.
When launched, this new upcoming motorcycle could be named the 'Harley-Davidson X210' and it could compete against the likes of the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Jawa range of motorcycles, and a few more.
That being said, in the Hero Karizma XMR, this 210 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine is tuned to produce 25.15bhp at 9,250rpm and 20.4Nm of peak torque at 7,250rpm. This engine also comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
In comparison, the Harley-Davidson X440 motorcycle comes with a 440cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. This engine is tuned to produce 27bhp at 6,000rpm and 38Nm of torque at 4,000rpm.
While the power figures may not seem that much different, the difference in torque is quite huge. Thus both motorcycles will have completely different powertrain characteristics. Also, the partnership may even retune the Karizma XMR's engine to suit the characteristics of the 'Harley-Davidson X210'.
Thoughts About The 'Harley-Davidson X210' Motorcycle
The upcoming 'Harley-Davidson X210' motorcycle will attract plenty of customers if Hero MotoCorp could price the model aggressively. We also expect this model to fetch a new set of demographics for the partnership - Significantly boosting the sales figures.
