CNG Bikes Coming Soon – Bajaj To Spearhead The Revolution
The popularity of CNG vehicles are on the rise in tier 1 and tier 2 cities in India despite their higher price tag.
This is not because CNG fuel is cheaper than petrol and diesel, but cars running on CNG fuel offer better fuel efficiency. Hence, the running cost of a CNG vehicle is far less compared to the running cost of a petrol or diesel vehicle.
In recent years, commercial vehicle manufacturers have also developed CNG technology to suit their unique requirements. In fact, CNG commercial vehicles are gaining a lot of popularity in India due to their reduced running cost.
As such, it might be surprising to know that CNG technology is yet to reach the two-wheeler market. Though there are aftermarket CNG conversions, no mainstream manufacturer has put a CNG motorcycle in production.
That being said, Autocar India has now found out that Bajaj is secretly developing CNG bikes for the Indian market. In fact, Bajaj has already made a few prototypes of the CNG motorcycle, and the model is said to be in its final stages of development.
Codenamed Bruzer E101, the production version of this motorcycle is expected to hit the roads as soon as within 6 months. This model is expected to be around 110cc and will be produced at the automaker's manufacturing facility in Aurangabad.
Though the initial production plan was to produce around 1 to 1.2 lakh units annually, the production plan has now been revised to 2 lakh units per year. To meet the additional production, Bajaj is also expected to produce these motorcycles from its Pant Nagar manufacturing facility as well.
That being said, Bajaj is considering the 'Platina' nameplate for its upcoming CNG motorcycle. Also, when launched we expect this motorcycle to easily cross the 100km mileage mark in with ease, making it the most fuel-efficient motorcycle in India.
Thoughts About CNG Bikes In India
Though the initial cost of a CNG motorcycle could be high, it will offer unmatched running cost, making it ideal for small business operators and last-mile logistics operators. As such, we expect the CNG motorcycle from Bajaj to very soon dominate the 100-110cc commuter motorcycle segment.
