BMW M 1000 XR Revealed As Rabid Hyper Tourer Looking To Rip Up Race Tracks
BMW Motorrad has unveiled its latest offering, the BMW M 1000 XR, a long-distance sports bike designed for dynamic riding on country roads, extended touring, and even racing.
The all-new BMW M 1000 XR is the third motorcycle model from the German marque's Motorsports (M) division after the M 1000 RR superbike and the M 1000 R roadster.

At the heart of the new M 1000 XR is the robust BMW Shiftcam engine which is a modified version of the one powering the S 1000 RR. The 999cc, water-cooled inline-4 engine sports dual-overhead camshafts and variable valve actuation.
The M 1000 XR's engine pushes out 198bhp at 12,750rpm and 113Nm of peak torque at 11,000rpm. The 999cc, inline four-pot revs up to a staggering redline of 14,600rpm.

The engine comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox and sports a shorter secondary gear ratio compared to the S 1000 XR with a sprocket sporting 47 teeth instead of 45.
This along with the shorter 4th, 5th and 6th gear ratios helps propel the M 1000 XR to a top speed of 275km/h and allows the hypertourer motorcycle to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds.

But the M 1000 XR isn't just about raw power; it's also about precision and control. It features a host of upgrades compared to the standard S1000XR.
The BMW M 1000 XR sports an aluminium composite bridge frame suspended off 45mm USD forks at the front and a monoshock and a double-sided aluminium swingarm at the rear.

Braking duties on the BMW M 1000 XR are handled by 320mm twin discs at the front that are anchored by radial four-piston fixed callipers. The rear wheel is stopped by a 265mm disc brake with a single-piston floating calliper. The brakes are aided by BMW's Motorrad ABS Pro system.
The BMW M 1000 XR rides on 17-inch wheels with the standard units made from forged aluminium while the lightweight units are made from carbon fibre. The wheels are shod with 120/70 ZR17 (front) and 200/55 ZR17 (rear) tyres.

To help the hyper tourer blitz race tracks BMW has fitted the M 1000 XR with quite a few aero addons. The subtle aero wings play a vital role, generating 12kg of downforce at 220km/h.
The M1000XR weighs 223kg in its standard trim, but riders seeking a more lightweight ride can opt for the M competition pack. This package reduces the bike's weight by 3kg through the use of carbon wheels and other high-performance components.

BMW has also packed the M 1000 XR with state-of-the-art electronic features to enhance rider comfort and safety. These include multiple riding modes, shift assist pro, hill hold function, adjustable steering damper, pit lane limiter, launch control, and braking slide control.
