Two Wheeler Sales February 2022: Hero Motocorp Dominates

However, most companies have witnessed a marginal drop in overall sales, but the biggest surprise is the growth in sales of electric two-wheelers. Top EV brands such as Hero Electric, Okinawa, and Ampere have witnessed more than 200 per cent YoY sales growth.

Diving into the numbers, Hero Motocorp leads the two-wheeler segment by selling 3,11,907 units of its motorcycles and scooters. Though this number is highly respectable, the Indian two-wheeler giant has witnessed an 11 per cent YoY drop in sales, compares to last year's 3,52,532 unit sales during the same time.

Trailing behind Hero Motocorp is the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer, Honda with 2,46,504 unit sales in February 2022. Honda two-wheelers witnessed even more decline in sales considering the Japanese company witnessed more than 3 lakh unit sales during February 2021. This amounts to a YoY sales decline of 18 per cent.

Taking the last step of the podium in terms of volume is TVS. The Hosur-based two-wheeler manufacturer managed to sell 1,55,040 units last month, whereas the company managed to sell 1,67,112 units in February 2021, resulting in a 7 per cent drop in YoY sales.

The 4th spot is secured by Bajaj by managing to sell 1,08,682 units in February 2022, which is 12,379 units less than its sales performance in February 2021, resulting in an almost 10 per cent drop in YoY sales performance.

Taking the 5th Spot is Suzuki by managing to sell 44,129 units in February 2022. However, the YoY performance dropped by more than 8 per cent for Suzuki.

Even Royal Enfield's sales dropped when considering the brand's YoY performance as it managed to sell only 44,010 units in February 2022, resulting in an almost 18 per cent drop in YoY sales.

The sales of Yamaha also dropped significantly resulting in a YoY drop of almost 19 per cent as the Japanese brand managed to sell only 36,384 units in the month of February 2022.

The next three spots are held by EV manufacturers - Hero Electric, Okinawa and Ampere. Hero Electric leads the EV sales and secures the 8th spot by selling 7,356 units of electric two-wheelers, resulting in a 235 per cent increase in YoY performance.

Next is Okinawa and it manages to sell an equally respectable 5,923 units of electric two-wheelers in February 2022. In comparison, the EV brand managed just over 1000 units last year, resulting in a 455 per cent hike in YoY sales performance.

Completing the top 10 list is Ampere by selling 4,303 units in February 2022, resulting in an equally astonishing 433 per cent jump in YoY performance.

Thoughts About Two Wheeler Sales In February 2022

While two-wheeler sales, in general, have taken a hit, the electric two-wheeler segment seems to be thriving, thanks to a significant hike in petrol prices. Also, the FAME subsidies seem to attract more people into buying electric two-wheelers.
