TVS Registers Negative Growth In March 2022: Semiconductor Shortage Impacted Business

Analysing the sales numbers, we can see that the majority of sales for the TVS Motor Company comes from two-wheelers. In March 2022 alone, TVS Motor Company sold 2,92,918 units of its motorcycles and scooters.

Though the two-wheeler sales alone add up to almost 95 per cent of sales volume for TVS Motor Company, it must be said that the company's two-wheeler sales have come down in March 2022.

Going back to March 2021, we can see that TVS Motor Company has sold 3,07,397 units of its two-wheelers. This means the South Indian automaker has registered a 4.88 per cent decline in two-wheeler sales in March 2022.

However, the domestic two-wheeler sales in March 2022 for TVS Motor Company stood at 1,96,956 units. In comparison, the domestic two-wheeler sales in March 2022 were registered as 2,02,155 units.

This sales figure reflects the current condition of two-wheeler sales in India as a majority of two-wheeler manufacturers have faced negative YoY growth in March 2022. In the case of TVS Motor Company, it witnessed a negative YoY sales growth of 2.63 per cent in March 2022.

Further looking into numbers, we can see that the TVS Motor Company has sold 1,57,254 units of motorcycles and 94,747 units of scooters in March 2022. Going back a year, TVS Motor Company had sold 1,60,522 units of motorcycles and 1,04,513 units of scooters in March 2021.

This means the YoY sales of motorcycles and scooters for the TVS Motor Company has declined by 2.07 per cent and 10.30 per cent, respectively.

Also, TVS Motor Company has clarified that the shortage of semiconductors had impacted their production and sales of premium two-wheelers. However, the company is hopeful that the semiconductor shortage will improve this year.

In terms of three-wheeler sales, the company has again witnessed negative YoY growth. In March 2022, the TVS Motor Company sold just 15,036 units of three-wheelers, this is 210 units less than the three-wheeler sales in March 2021, resulting in a 1.39 per cent decline in sales.

Overall, TVS Motor Company has witnessed negative YoY growth. However, TVS Motor Company is hopeful that the semiconductor shortage will improve and overall have a positive impact on production and sales.
