Top 6 Two Wheeler Manufacturers Grow By 15.3% Y-o-Y As Recovery Continues
India's top 6 two-wheeler manufacturers enjoyed a relatively fruitful April 2022 with sales growing by 15.3% Year-over-Year. However, Month-over-Month sales were down by nearly 3.5 per cent.
India's top 6 two-wheeler manufacturers enjoyed a relatively fruitful April 2022 with sales growing by 15.3% Year-over-Year. However, Month-over-Month (M-o-M) sales were down by nearly 3.5 per cent.

India's top 6 two-wheeler manufacturers - Hero, Honda, TVS, Bajaj, Suzuki and Royal Enfield - combined to sell 10,99,167 units domestically in April 2022. This number was up 1,45,829 units (15.3 per cent) compared to last April.
However, compared to March 2022's Domestic sales figures of 11,38,561 units April saw the big 6 sales dip by 3.46 per cent (39,394 units) with only Honda and Suzuki in the black.

Let's take a look at India's Big 6 Two-Wheeler Manufacturers and their sales in April 2022.

1) Hero Motocorp - 3,98,490 Units
The world's biggest two-wheeler manufacturer grew by 16.31 per cent (55,876 units) Y-o-Y compared to April 2021 when it sold 3,42,614 units in the domestic market. However, M-o-M sales numbers were down by 4.15 per cent (17,274 units) compared to March 2022 when Hero sold 4,15,764 units.

2) Honda - 3,18,732 Units
Japanese automaker Honda also enjoyed a brilliant April 2022 as it grew by 32.75 per cent Y-o-Y (78,632 units) compared to the same period in 2021 when it sold 2,40,100 units.
Honda was also one of two manufacturers in the top 6 to report M-o-M sales growth. Honda's April 2022 numbers saw its sales rise M-o-M by 2.97 per cent (9,183 units) from March 2022's 3,09,549 units.

3) TVS - 1,80,533 Units
Chennai-based TVS saw its sales rise Y-o-Y by an impressive 37.41 per cent (49,147 units) in April 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.
Last year, TVS sold 1,31,836 units in April. However, in terms of M-o-M sales metrics, TVS' sales dropped by 8.34 per cent (16,423 units) compared to March 2022 when it sold 1,96,956 units domestically.

4) Bajaj - 93,233 Units
Bajaj endured a torrid month in April 2022 as sales dipped in terms of both Y-o-Y and M-o-M comparisons. Bajaj's Y-o-Y sales dropped by 26.34 per cent (33,337 units) compared to April 2021 when it sold 1,26,570 units.
M-o-M sales were also down by 12.93 per cent (13,848 units) compared to March 2022 when Bajaj sold 1,07,081 two-wheelers in the Indian market. However, it was not all doom and gloom for Bajaj as the Pulsar 250 twins became the fastest 250cc bike to 10,000 units sales in India.

5) Suzuki - 54,327 Units
Suzuki's Y-o-Y sales dropped by 14.95 per cent (9,552 units) in April 2022 compared to the same period last year. In April 2021, Suzuki sold a total of 63,879 two-wheelers in India.
M-o-M sales, on the other hand, were up by 7.08 per cent (3,593 units) as the Japanese marque only sold 50,734 two-wheelers in India last month.

6) Royal Enfield - 53,852 Units
Royal Enfield slipped up in April 2022 as it lost its fifth spot to Suzuki. In March 2022, Royal Enfield sold 58,477 units and controlled 5.14 per cent of the Indian two-wheeler market. However, a drop by 7.91 per cent (4,625 units) compared to last month and Suzuki's growth over the same period saw the Chennai-based icon slip up.
Royal Enfield's Y-o-Y sales though were up by 10.38 per cent (5,063 units) compared to April 2021 when it sold 48,789 units.

Thoughts On The Performance Of India's Top Two-Wheeler Marques In April
India's biggest two-wheeler brands performed well last month when compared to April 2021 showing signs that the industry is putting the pandemic behind it. However, monthly sales were slightly down due to the start of a new financial year and the associated price hikes.
