EICMA 2022: Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Revealed - The Adventure Seeker
Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki has revealed the all-new V-Strom 800DE at EICMA 2022 motorcycle show in Milan, Italy.
Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki has revealed the all-new V-Strom 800DE at EICMA 2022 motorcycle show in Milan, Italy.
Suzuki V-Strom 800DE Specs
The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE is powered by the same fuel-injected 776cc, DOHC parallel twin engine with a 270-degree crankshaft that powers the all-new GSX-8X that also debuted at EICMA 2022.
In the GSX-8S, the parallel-twin powerplant sports a more conventional exhaust system and a different engine map so that it produces 83.1bhp at 8,500rpm and 78Nm of peak torque at 6,800rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
The engine on the V-Strom 800DE also features Suzuki's new double countershaft balancing system to help keep the vibes in check. The exhaust system like the one on the GSX-8S is a 2-into-1 setup with a two-stage catalytic converter.
Like its naked sibling, the V-Strom 800DE features a steel frame. However, Suzuki has bolted on a much beefier subframe for the 800DE allowing it to carry greater loads including a full 3-box hard luggage set along with the two riders.
The V-Strom 800DE features a fully adjustable Showa inverted fork at the front and a uniquely shaped lightweight aluminium swingarm and a mono-shock at the rear each allowing 220mm of travel.
The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE rides on spoked centrally-laced wheels shod with Dunlop Trailmax Mixtour off-road tubed tyres as standard. The front wheel is a 21-inch unit shod with a 90/90 R21 tyre while the 17-inch rear wheel comes wrapped in a 150/70 R17 tyre.
The geometry of the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE's frame is characterized by a long wheelbase, an increased steering angle, high ground clearance and a wide handlebar grip.
Suzuki claims that this setup aims to ensure maximum stability and control when driving on unpaved surfaces and offers a riding position that effectively distributes the weight between the front and the rear. Suzuki claims that this allows riders to easily move and control the 800DE at speed while also improving riding stability in the presence of a passenger or top case and panniers.
The V-Strom 800DE features a four-mode traction control system with a dedicated G mode for offroading that allows for some slippage when driving on unpaved surfaces. Riders can also deactivate the traction control system. Also featured is a two-mode ABS setup with Mode 1 ideal for dirt roads. Like the traction control system, riders can turn off the ABS system completely.
In terms of its looks, the new 800DE is most definitely a V-Strom. With its sharp short beak that sits a lot higher than normal, compact windshield, twin hexagonal LED headlights, large 20-litre fuel tank, high seat (855mm), and the rear rack with integrated grab handles, the V-Strom 800DE looks ready to conquer the toughest of terrains.
The V-Strom 800DE also features a 5-inch color TFT LCD screen that provides all the info required about the bike to the rider as well as pop-up alerts and warnings. THe display features two lighting modes (day and night) that can be managed automatically or manually. At the left side sits a USB port that can be used to charge up your electronic devices.
Thoughts About The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE
The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE pairs all of Suzuki's know-how about going off the beaten path and pairs it up with a brand new powerplant to make a motorcycle that looks ready to bash its way up and down the sand dunes and rocks.
