Simple One Gets More Powerful Motor; New Upgrades Coming Before Deliveries Begin In June

In August 2021, Simple Energy made headlines with the launch of its flagship Simple One electric scooter. With a top speed of 105km/h, it was one of the best electric scooters in terms of performance. With a claimed range of 236 kilometres, it held the distinction of having the highest range for an electric scooter.

The scooter was launched at a starting price of Rs 1.09 lakh. Buyers could book the scooter at the brand's website by paying an amount of Rs 1,947. In January 2022, Simple Energy announced that deliveries of the scooter would begin in June and it had also claimed to have made improvements on the scooter.

Now, the first of the improvements has come to light. The BLDC motor has been worked upon and improved. Increased levels of vertical integration have allowed Simple Energy engineers to achieve 96 percent efficiency with the motor. This simply means there is increased performance without a loss in efficiency.

The motor is a BLDC unit and is claimed to be compact when compared to other electric scooters. Having a compact motor allowed the engineers to fit a bigger battery pack, therefore allowing it to feature a greater range of over 200 kilometres in Eco mode.

Yes, the company's latest statement claims the scooter can do 200+ kilometres as compared to the 236 kilometres claimed during the launch last year. This could be a result of further testing and evaluation which the team seems to have done a lot of.

Suhas Rajkumar, Founder and CEO of Simple Energy was quoted as saying, "While we had already developed the most powerful motor last year, we found there was room for further improvement. This breakthrough is an upgrade on efficiency and performance for us as the motor is the key to a perfect EV. 50 iterations later, this has only added to making the scooter even better. We are certain that the end consumer will be thrilled to experience it."

The Simple One might just turn out to be a unique electric scooter thanks to the way it is designed and also due to its unique battery arrangement. The battery pack is made of two units. While one is fixed in the floorboard, the other is removable and can be accessed by opening the seat. This allows a greater level of flexibility than one could imagine.

Simple Energy claims there are more improvements on the scooter and these are expected to be revealed as 'surprises' over the next few weeks. The scooter is almost set to go into production at the company's plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
