Simple Energy & C4V Partnership To Produce Lithium-Ion Batteries In India: Just What The EV Industry Needs
Simple Energy and C4V have partnered to produce lithium-ion batteries in India. The partnership also aims at creating a battery cell manufacturing ecosystem in India and this should go a long way in adding more value to the Make In India cause. This partnership might also bring down dependence on cells being imported from other countries.
Electric vehicles are taking over the world. One at a time, electric vehicles are replacing conventionally-fueled vehicles and it is the two-wheeler market that is witnessing this newfound dominance more than the four-wheelers. India is the largest two-wheeler market in the world and it was already quite obvious that electric two-wheelers would kick off instantly.
Among the sea of new electric vehicle manufacturers, it is quite difficult to really make a mark. However, Bangalore-based Simple Energy has managed to make that mark thanks to a brilliant product. The brand made headlines with its Simple One electric scooter.
A quick run through the spec sheet and the features list will reveal that it is one of the best electric scooters to have been developed in India so far. With a claimed range of around 236 kilometres, it boasts the highest range of any electric two-wheeler in the country. It is also pretty quick with a 0-40km/h acceleration time of just 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 105km/h.
The Simple One is powered by a 4.8kWh lithium-ion battery. The company had proclaimed the advantages of li-ion over that of LFP (Lithium Ferrophosphate) batteries and it does seem like the brand still prefers sticking to the advantages of Lithium-ion.
To produce these lithium-ion batteries in a more cost-effective manner and to introduce a cell manufacturing ecosystem, Simple Energy has partnered with C4V. Most electric vehicle manufacturers that use Lithium-ion batteries in India import the cells inside these battery packs. Some of them import entire battery units while some others import the cells and manufacture the battery themselves.
Simple Energy is trying to avoid the cell import route, instead choosing to manufacture the cells in India. C4V seems like the perfect partner for the task. C4V is a company dedicated to lithium-ion battery technology and the manufacturing thereof. The company also claims to possess critical insight related to Lithium batteries as well as Gigafactories.
The fact that C4V can set up and run a large-scale manufacturing unit of Lithium batteries in India is good news not just for Simple Energy, but also for all electric vehicle manufacturers in the country. C4V is also on the verge of commissioning its Gigafactory in New York and seems like the perfect partner for Simple Energy to set up Lithium-ion battery manufacturing in India.
Shreshth Mishra, Co-Founder of Simple Energy was quoted as saying, "Simple Energy is leading the Indian EV industry by vertically integrating the entire value chain, thus bringing better synergy and higher localization. By partnering with C4V, we will consolidate cell supply, which is a vital component for us. This strategy also make us more self-reliant and reduces our dependency on imports"
Meanwhile, Simple Energy is almost ready to start operations at its factory located near Hosur, in Tamil Nadu. The state-of-the art manufacturing plant is said to have a production capacity of up to 1 million units annually. The factory is also capable of scaling up to meet demand.
Thoughts On Simple Energy & C4V Entering A Partnership To Manufacture Lithium-Ion Batteries in India
The thought behind the partnership is brilliant. It will help C4V grow massively while Simple Energy will get lithium-ion batteries in a more cost-effective manner and the Indian EV industry too stands a chance to touch greater heights. It is indeed a win-win situation for everyone involved.
