Ola S1 Air Vs Ola S1 - Features, Range, Charging, Battery Pack, Powertrain & More
Ola Electric launched the Ola S1 Air electric scooter in India with an aggressive price tag of Rs 79,999 (ex-showroom, India). However, this is just an introductory offer valid till 24th of October, after which the Ola S1 Air will be priced at Rs 84,999 (ex-showroom, India). As such, let us see what an additional Rs 15,000 will get you with the more premium Ola S1 electric scooter.
Design
Starting with the design, both the Ola S1 and Ola S1 Air electric scooters look very similar from a distance. However, one can clearly see the difference when both electric scooters are parked beside each other, whereas the Ola S1 clearly looks more premium with its alloy wheels, front and rear disc brakes, single-fork telescopic front suspension, and a few more premium bits.
On the other hand, the Ola S1 Air definitely looks less premium with its dual-tone paint finish comprising of dark finish on the lower panels, simple tubular grab handles, and a few more. In addition to that, the Ola S1 Air also packs a smaller 34-litre underseat storage instead of the 36-litre storage in the Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro electric scooters.
Powertrain
Coming to the powertrain, there is a considerable difference between the powertrain setup of the cheaper Ola S1 Air and the more expensive Ola S1. For starters, the Ola S1 features a Mid drive IPM electric motor with a peak output of 8.5kW, whereas the rated motor power is 5.5kW.
On the other hand, the newly launched Ola S1 Air comes with a hub-mounted electric motor with a peak power output of 4.5kW and rated power output of 2.7kW. In addition to that, both electric scooters come with Eco, Normal & Sport modes.
Performance
In terms of performance, the Ola S1 electric scooter can sprint to 40km/h in just 3.8 seconds, whereas a sprint to 60km/h takes just 6.3 seconds. Moreover, the Ola S1 can do a top speed of 95km/h.
In comparison, the Ola S1 Air electric scooter takes 4.3 seconds to reach 40km/h, and an additional 5.5 seconds to reach 60km/h. Moreover, the true top speed of the Ola S1 Air is rated at 85km/h.
Battery Pack
In terms of the battery pack, the more expensive Ola S1 electric scooter unsurprisingly comes with a larger 2.98kWh battery pack. However, the battery size difference between the Ola S1 and Ola S1 Air is not that significant as the Ola S1 Air comes packed with a smaller yet comparable 2.5kWh battery pack.
Range
Thanks to the larger battery pack, the Ola S1 electric scooter can cover more distance on a full charge than the cheaper Ola S1 Air electric scooter. In terms of numbers, the Ola S1 comes with an ARAI-certified range of 141 kilometres, whereas the Ola S1 Air comes with an ARAI-certified range of 141 kilometres.
Charging
In terms of charging, the Ola S1 electric scooter takes 5 hours to charge to its 100 per cent capacity. Moreover, the Ola S1 electric scooter comes equipped with a portable 750W charger. On the other hand, the Ola S1 Air electric scooter comes with a portable 500W charger, and the electric scooter takes just 4.5 hours to charge to its full capacity.
Features
Both electric scooters are well-equipped in terms of features. This includes features such as Reverse mode, side-stand alert, multiple ride modes, OTA updates, Party mode, Navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, remote boot unlock and much more.
However, the Ola S1 electric scooter does sport a few additional features such as 220mm disc brake at the front, 180mm disc brake at the rear, alloy wheels, and wider 110/70 tyres.
Thoughts About The Ola S1 & Ola S1 Air
With the introductory price of Rs 79,999 (ex-showroom, India), the Ola S1 Air electric scooter seems like a pretty good deal. However, with the inevitable price hike, the price difference between the Ola S1 Air and Ola S1 trickles down to just Rs 15,000, and the Ola S1 seems to offer better performance for the price difference.
