Ola Electric To Increase Annual Production Following Increased Demand
Ola Electric quickly gained traction in the Indian electric scooter segment with its Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro electric scooters. Now the Bangalore-based EV maker is looking forward to increasing the production capacity of its manufacturing plant to keep up with the increased demand for its electric scooters.
The plans to increase the production capacity of the automaker's state-of-the-art production plant in Krishnagiri, Tamilnadu was shared by the CEO of the company, Mr Bhavish Aggarwal over a virtual press conference, reported PTI.
"We feel that in the next six to eight months, we will exhaust the (current) installed capacity and we also in parallel expanding our capacity in the Future Factory" said, Bhavish Aggarwal at the virtual press conference.
In addition to that, Mr Aggarwal also said that the Future Factory currently produces more than 1,000 electric scooters a day, and the company is looking forward to scaling up the production capacity at the Future Factory. He also added that the company has sold more than one lakh units of Ola electric scooters in India since production commenced last year in August.
At present, the annual production capacity of Ola Electric at its Future Factory in Krishnagiri stands at 20 lakh units per year. However, with the current expansion plans, Ola Electric has stated that its manufacturing plant will a production capacity to produce 1 crore electric two-wheelers annually. This means Ola Electric's maximum production capacity per month is more than 8 lakh units.
In addition to that, Ola Electric recently launched the MoveOS 3 software update and the Ola S1 Air electric scooter - The latter is currently the new base variant of the Ola S1 range of electric scooters with an aggressive price tag of Rs 79,999 (ex-showroom, India).
Thanks to such an aggressive price tag, many conventional scooter buyers will be at least considering switching to electric scooters. That being said, Ola Electric has not made the newly launched S1 Air as bare as a Spartan. The electric scooter still comes with features such as LED headlights, LED taillights, a 7-inch full-colour digital instrument cluster, navigation, party mode, ride modes, reverse mode and many more.
Moreover, thanks to better battery optimizations and the use of an efficient 4.5kW hub-mounted electric motor, the Ola S1 Air with its smaller 2.5kWh battery pack can still do more than 100 kilometres on a full charge and reach a top speed of 90km/h. - This performance and range figures puts it on par with many other premium electric scooters in the Indian market.
In addition to that, Ola Electric also teased a few images of its upcoming electric car. Overall, Ola Electric has taken a very aggressive path in becoming one of the leading EV manufacturers in India.
Thoughts About Ola Electric's Expansion Plans
With a maximum annual production capacity to produce 1 crore electric two-wheelers, the OlaFuture Factory in Krishnagiri will undoubtedly become one of the biggest manufacturing plants in the world. However, at the current growth rate of EVs in India, it may still take some years for Ola Electric to fully utilise the maximum production capacity.
