KTM Registers Decline In Overall Sales: 250 Variants Become More Popular

Though two-wheeler sales are generally low last financial year, looking into sales figures, it is clear that KTM has lost a significant market share in the country.

Despite KTM still being one of the best performance motorcycle manufacturers in the country, the sales of almost all of its products have come down by a significant margin. However, the sales figures of the 250cc variants have increased in terms of both MoM and YoY sales figures.

Speaking about the sales figures, KTM sold 1,943 units of KTM 200 Duke and RC variants in March 2022. However, YoY sales figures for the 200cc variants of the KTM Duke and RC motorcycles have dipped by more than 12 per cent as the Austrian two-wheeler manufacturer managed to sell 283 units more in March 2021.

In comparison, the MoM sales figures have suffered an even deeper decline at 16 per cent as the company managed to sell 2,318 units in February 2022. However, the 200cc variants of the KTM motorcycle still remain the most popular choice in India.

Though 125cc variants are the entry point for KTM's performance-oriented motorcycle range in India, the sales numbers are somewhat low at just 186 units sold in March 2022. To make matters worse, both YoY and MoM sales are down 89 and 67 per cent.

Coming to the 390 series of KTM motorcycles, despite being a favourite of many automotive journalists in India, KTM could only sell 1 unit in March 2022.

By selling just 1 unit of the 390 series, the KTM registered a 99.9 per cent decline in YoY sales ans the Austrian two-wheeler manufacturer had sold more than 1,000 units in March 2021.

In addition to that, MoM sales of the KTM 390 variants also fell by 97 per cent as the company manages to sell 38 units in February 2022.

As mentioned earlier, only the 250 variants of the KTM motorcycles registered positive sales as the Austrian two-wheeler manufacturer managed to sell 1,539 units in March 2022. These sales figures indicate a 23 per cent hike in YoY sales and an 8 per cent hike in MoM sales.

Overall. KTM sold 3,669 units of its motorcycles in March 2022, registering a 41 per cent decline in YoY sales and almost 16 per cent decline in MoM sales.

In addition to all this, the export numbers for KTM stand at 3,620 units in March 2022, thus registering a YoY export decline of 24 per cent. On the other hand, MoM exports were down by 27 per cent.

Thoughts About KTM's Sales Performance In India

Despite the slow two-wheeler sales in India, the sales of KTM motorcycles seems to have been more severely hit due to the pandemic. Except for the 250 models, every other model under the KTM roof has taken a significant hit in sales performance.
