Honda Likely To Launch Activa Electric Scooter By 2023
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is likely to launch the 'Activa' electric scooter by 2023. According to Honda, the upcoming electric scooter will be ready by next financial year.
The news regarding Honda's plans to break into EV space in India was revealed by Mr Atsushi Ogata, President of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India.
Given the fact that Honda Activa is currently the best selling scooter in India, it is logical for Honda to use the same name for its upcoming electric scooter. This will make it easier for consumers to connect with the brand as the 'Activa' nameplate carries USPs of the brand such as reliability and performance.
However, it is not clear whether Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India will develop an all-new electric scooter for the Indian market or use a slightly modified version of its existing electric scooters from the international product lineup.
At present, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has been testing the Benly electric scooter in India and the scooter was also spotted at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
Speaking about Benly electric scooter, Honda offers 4 different models of the electric scooter in Japan. These variants include Benly e: I, Benly e: I Pro, Benly e: II, and Benly e: II Pro.
Though the Benly range of electric scooter are primarily meant for last-mile deliveries in both B2B and B2C segments, the powertrain and hardware can be used to power commuter-friendly electric scooter.
Since the Benly electric scooter has already been undergoing testing, it is safe to assume that this electric scooter will lay the foundation for the upcoming Honda 'Activa' electric scooter.
In addition to that, Honda also has other electric scooters in its international product portfolio. This includes electric scooters such as Honda PCX electric, Honda Gyro e:, Honda Gyro Canopy e: and many more.
Thoughts About Honda Activa Electric Scooter
Honda already has big plans in EV sector and the company recently set up a new subsidiary to manufacture battery packs. This new subsidiary was formed with a capital of Rs 133 crore.
With the launch of the Honda 'Activa' electric scooter, Honda will be looking forward to dominating the segment.
