Hero Electric & ReadyAssist To Train 20,000 Mechanics In EV Service & Repair: Need Of The Hour

The world is moving towards electric vehicles and there is nothing that can stop the growth of electric vehicles in the near future. Several brands are taking up all kinds of measures to ensure the growth of the EV industry and also, to sell more electric vehicles.

Some manufacturers are producing efficient and powerful batteries, some others are making brilliant vehicles and many are working on setting up charging stations and electric grids to make sure that EVs don't run out of juice. However, at this moment, it seems like only Hero Electric has analysed the Indian market very well.

The Indian market is quite unique in the fact that it has lakhs of small garages scattered across the country. Almost every village is bound to have a mechanic or a small repair shop in it. Larger villages will have a couple of garages and towns have many more. These small private garages and mechanics have kept a majority of the vehicles in India running well.

Over the last few decades, many brands have attempted to set up more after-sales service centres across the country. However, only brands like Hero MotoCorp and Maruti Suzuki have managed to get maximum reach. Yet, even this isn't enough and local mechanics take care of a majority of the vehicles.

While these mechanics have learnt the skills to repair petrol-powered vehicles, they certainly need to upskill in order to service and repair electric vehicles in the right manner. Electric vehicles are relatively simpler machines with a significantly lower number of moving parts. However, the right technique is required.

This is where Hero Electric has stepped in to save the day. Hero Electric is one of the largest manufacturers of electric two-wheelers in the Indian market and the brand has achieved recognition even in rural areas, hence making it perfect to take this step. To upskill 20,000 mechanics, Hero Electric has partnered with ReadyAssist.

ReadyAssist is one of the largest roadside assistance companies in India with a large existing network of around 5,000 mechanics located around the country. These mechanics are private garage owners who are currently involved in assisting clients who require roadside assistance with their vehicles.

Apart from training the 20,000 mechanics, Hero Electric will also provide the training module to the 5,000 mechanics already onboard with ReadyAssist. Speaking of the training module, it is divided into two stages - one for beginners and another for experts.

Once the training is complete, the mechanics will be assessed and only upon completing the assessment will a certificate be given to them. This certificate will qualify them to work on electric vehicles.

What makes this better is that, the mechanics will not only be able to work on Hero Electric two-wheelers, but will be able to repair and service other EVs in generic terms as well. These mechanics will then also be ready to assist in doorstep and on-spot EV servicing.

This is true grassroots-level preparation for the arrival of electric mobility. These mechanics will help keep electric vehicles going even if there aren't any authorised service centres in the vicinity.

If these mechanics also end up installing a charger in each of their garages and houses, that adds 20,000 chargers for EVs across the country, and we're sure a large number of these would be in remote locations. This is a brilliant initiative indeed and kudos to Hero Electric and Ready Assist for taking this up.
