Energica Motorcycles In India: Premium Electric Motorcycles Manufacturer Energica To Make Indian Debut By 2024
Energica Motor is all set to enter the Indian market within the next two years. Reports have revealed that well-known Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Energica is actively looking at options to enter the Indian market and will do so by 2024. The marque is looking at a partnership with established Indian OEMs to set up shop in India.
Energica started off as a project by the CRP Group. However, it soon evolved into a full-fledged electric motorcycle manufacturer in 2014. The brand manufactures the most premium electric motorcycles in the world and has made big strides in terms of electric vehicle technology.
Energica's motorcycles are loaded with the latest technology in terms of connectivity and the brand has made it big even in terms of EV powertrain. Energica's motorcycles come with fast charging as standard and its most recent product is what is probably the world's first premium electric motorcycle dedicated to touring.
The Energica Experia boasts an impressive claimed range of upto 418 kilometres. Even with a real-world highway range of over 250 kilometres, the Energica Experia can do very well with a quick charge as it boasts a total charging time of just 40 minutes. This is groundbreaking and has placed electric vehicles almost at par with traditional petrol-powered motorcycles in terms of the range that can be covered in a single day.
Now, the brand is actively looking at an Indian debut. India is the world's largest two-wheeler market and it is one of those markets that has proven irresistible for the best two-wheeler manufacturers in the world. Despite the majority of Indian two-wheeler sales coming from commuter and low-capacity motorcycles, premium motorcycle manufacturers can't resist the Indian market.
For Energica's Indian debut, the brand is looking at a partnership with an Indian OEM. In a Financial Express report, Livia Cevolini, the CEO of Energica Motor was quoted as saying, "The company has received interest from OEMs in India." She went on to say that these OEMs are well-established players.
There is no word yet about the brands that have approached Energica. However, we can say that Energica wouldn't be looking at the mass-market segment anytime in the future. Livia Cevolini went on to say, "Since the start, we never wanted to compromise on the product and thus we are not looking to enter the mass market or entry-level electric two-wheeler market. The technology simply is not there, and we don't want to remove or compromise on any features,"
This also means, the Energica motorcycles will be arriving at a higher price point. In terms of pricing, it will be comparable to the 600-800cc superbike segment. Even the performance is almost equivalent to motorcycles in this segment. The Energica Experia for example offers 102bhp and 115Nm.
More information regarding Energica and its Indian debut is expected to surface over the upcoming months.
Thoughts On Energica Motorcycles Being Launched In India
Exciting times await us in India, especially for those looking at purchasing a premium electric motorcycle. More fast-charging grids are expected to be functional all over the country in the next two years and this will only be helpful for longer rides on motorcycles like the Energica Experia.
